My guess is that people think having PPS hoards for dogs specifically and then PPS hoards for everything that is not a dog is enough since everything non-dog isn't popular enough to have more than a handful of PPS outcomes each.

I understand what you mean. I collect PPS Owls, and would love them to have a separate catogory, but Iknow not many people collect them. A lot of people thing that PPS only applies to dogs, when actually most breeds do have a PPS version, though they are not always as popular. I understand why there is not a separate catogory and think that is the right thing, {though it would be pretty awesome to have separate PPS owl catogory}

This is not true at all. Not having PPS rat hoards (and other species) is to give fairness to the fact that getting and holding a world record is supposed to be difficult.

There are 46 dog PPS in 2008 and 2009 alone. I haven't gotten up to counting the rest because I have a busy weekend.
This means in order to beat the single variation, you'll have to be actively collecting, keeping in mind that someone might be hoarding one of the other 46 outcomes.

There have only been 12 PPS rats and 13 PPS owls released.
This is far, far less than 1 rat per year, meaning someone could just be hoarding this one outcome, and easily create a monopoly because the only competition would need to be hoarding the exact same pet or one of the others that came out a full year before it to beat that record.
While most breeds do have a PPS version, there are simply not enough of them to make holding a record fair to the other users that have to actively work at it. This is also why you don't see "PPS litter" for any pet. There are just so few of them that it would be easy to pick that outcome up, hoard it and never have to worry about keeping it up because it would be an instant winner with no or very little competition.

I'm currently counting other species to see if they're viable to be added as a category, but as it currently stands, there are simply not enough pps rats to be added to the records.

That honestly doesn't sit well with me as an argument against allowing each species to have it's own PPS hoard. It IS difficult to collect PPS Rats. It's a lot harder than being able to collect anything that isn't a dog, throw them all into a group and have over 1000 PPS Pets. If you ask me, that is A LOT like an 'anything goes' hoard which you've said many times over will never be added to the World Records. Yes I understand how it's slightly different than say a '2009 pet hoard' in which any pet that's from 2009 can be added but to me it still seems a lot easier to obtain that hoard than it is for those people who only want to collect the PPS forms of rats or lions or whatever else. And it is therefore impossible for those people to have any chance of competing for a PPS hoard record because they maybe only like PPS rats and nothing else. I mean, I've looked at both Cowboy_Casanova and Fawnhawk's hoards. Cowboy_Casanova has 150 PPS Rats and Fawnhawk has 82 PPS Rats.

I know for a fact Cowboy_Casanova has been collecting the PPS rats since they were first introduced and probably Fawnhawk as well. And because there are so few outcomes have probably found it difficult to obtain them in large quantities unlike those who collect any PPS pet. I'd say specific species PPS hoards are sufficiently difficult to maintain and earn records for regardless of number of outcomes. The fewer outcomes there are the harder it is to have that record. And yes, if you want to beat it you have to massively hoard one entire litter or every outcome ever but that's not all that different from the Largest Species hoards. I could hoard dogs until my dying day and probably never beat the current record if only because I have no real desire to.

If you're reluctant to add the hoards because there will only be a few people out there trying for them look at the Costume Theme hoard. I've held that record for a long time (I believe I first qualified with about 30 pets). To my knowledge no one else is even trying for the record. It's not all that different from a PPS Species hoard that only a few people would ever try for.

I dunno, I got wordy and such but I just don't understand the reasons against adding the species hoards. Already for the rats there are two people dedicated to trying to earn and hold that record, maybe more who haven't posted here simply because the category did not exist. I understand the arguments against Single Variation PPS Species hoards since there aren't many PPS outcomes of certain species (4 total butterfly wolves does not make for easy single variation hoarding/competition) but not against a PPS species hoard when there are obviously enough outcomes for people to hoard and want to hold a record for a certain species.

Must agree with zippo here; just dividing into dogs and everything else doesn't seem fair.
There are enough PPSes of other species around, and many people hoarding them.
Take cats for example - the number of people hoarding the munchkin litter alone is ...just wow. And then there are the other PPS cats as well.
I don't see how it'd be a problem to add PPS categories for every species that does have such outcomes, if there are people who want to go for that record.
To second zippo's post again, I have seen far less people hoard pets with certain dressups than people who hoard PPS rats or spiders or horses or... well, you name it.

It wouldn't hurt to at least give it a try, right? ^^

They count as a special species, as they're not a monthly release ;)

I agree with Zippo. I've been hoarding PPS rats actively since they were first released, and despite the small amount, it has been very difficult to collect them. No one really likes to part with them because many think the babies are... for lack of a better term, cuter that the adults.
