"Oh, hello little guy, aren't you sweet !"
It looked up, mustering its best innocent animal expression, twitching its little nose inquisitively. The bright white female lowered herself down to the ground, peering at the creature with soft lavender eyes. It flinched away reflexively, being the timid creature it was. This upset the wolf, who reached out a gentle paw to the rabbit. It caught her gaze, then, startling her; she pulled back her paw, unsure of what to do. It stared at her, seeming to look right through her, and she found that she couldn't pull her eyes away, she had to hold its stare ...
The rabbit grinned maniacally, baring a set of fangs filed down to points in a cannibalistic manner. This was what it wanted, yes ...

Winter is catching up with us again; I feel that we will have snow before the next moon cycle can begin. I raise my nose to the wind, flaring my nostrils to catch the scent of the rest of the hunting group. We've been going at it all day, without much success. About time to head back, I think, so I tilt my head back and let out a low howl, just loud enough to reach Sal a few minutes in the other direction. He'll pass the howl along, and in a matter of seconds it'll have travelled to all of us. I lean to my right, turning myself around to head back to--
Woah.
About twenty yards away, lounging on a boulder, is a bright red female, with gradients of black and white scattered about her body. I blink and stumble backward a few steps, startled out of my wits at such an oddly coloured creature. My first thought is that she is covered in blood, but with the casual way she lies there, she doesn't seem to be in pain. And she must have heard me howl, because she's looking directly at me. We stand there for a moment, staring at each other, just watching in silence. It seems she speaks my language.
As we regard each other with rather uninterested expressions, I wonder why I haven't seen her around before, whether red is a normal coat colour. I decide that it isn't, and that she is just a delusion that my brain is making up. Wouldn't be the first time. After a while, she sighs lamely, and glances behind her at something. She rises to her feet, and plods away with more lazy a gait than I've ever seen anyone use. I decide that she's just about the female version of myself, and that she must be a figment of my mind.
Whatever.
I shrug my shoulders, padding back to our pack's territory slowly. Nobody will miss me, I'm not much of a party animal anyway. And it doesn't take all nine hunters to tell Alpha that there won't be any food tonight. Which I don't mind; I don't really care about anything anymore.
