I'm definitely not the best person to ask about that! I've only got a few myself and both were sheer luck from adopting but I'll give you an overall idea!

The special zebras you have a very small chance of getting each month when you adopt horses and ponies.
Most others are exclusive to 18th December Advent calendar drops where you have a small chance of getting a 'rereleased' pet from previous years or one of the new 'unreleased' pets that are only available on that day!
Other than that's it's just a case of trading other users, but of course special release pets are very highly prized and so very expensive! Also many users are (understandably!) unlikely to trade their special release pets at all!!

So a lot of users consider them sort of 'extra' to a complete collection as the likelihood of a single user having all of them is quite small but is possible with a lot of hard work!!
