How do you feel about no april fools event?

But the good thing online is no one can splatter you with stuff, or put something in our food. Or can they o.o. dun dun duuuuuuuh!

I'm personally not bothered. I remember enjoying the April fool's event years and years ago when I last experienced one, but overall.. I don't know. I've got too much other stuff going on in my life to be upset about not getting a specific theme on here I guess. Buuuut that's also most likely part of me coming back to this site as an adult I suppose.

i don't think it's in any way "lazy", and whilst it's understandable to be disappointed, i think it's important to remember that there's an ongoing event which (to my memory) hasn't happened before!
messing with the site and pet appearance could both cause false rumours about event outcomes that don't really exist, and could make it hard to be on the site to hunt for tokens - i do miss the april fools event, but i think having a prank going on at the same time as the easter event could lead to so much confusion, so i completely understand why they chose to omit it! it may be an "excuse", but it's a completely valid one and i don't think it's in any way "disingenuous"; if it was the other way around, i'm sure people would complain about the prank as they always seem to do - i think we have to remember that the staff don't "owe" us things, so again, it's fine to be disappointed but that doesn't mean the staff are lazy or lying to us!
i think back to the upside-down prank a few years back - it was really fun, but also did make me dizzy to look at, and i couldn't imagine logging on regularly to find tokens whilst having to look at everything turned around!

Not gonna lie, I'm one of the ones pretty happy we didn't get a prank this year. They always feel so exhausting to me, even though it's just for one day. I don't like change very much. I usually just look at the theme once, check out some of the pets that were changed and then avoid CS for the rest of the day.

And I don't remember the April Fool's prank happening during an event ever before, when was that? Easter is super early this year, it's usually much later in April and we don't really have any other "fluctuating" events happening around this time.

i was sad, sure, but i definitely wouldn't call staff "lazy" for not doing it. that's kind of rude and ungrateful imo; it's a free game that the staff already put an immense amount of work and dedication into every month for us, not to mention the events. since we're still in the end of the easter event i can see why they feel it could be too much to do, and i respect their choice. also as much as people love it, other people have complained about it literally every year so that could be a factor to consider as well (though why they would complain perplexes me, some people just don't like fun ig)

100% think this too - the staff consistently work hard toward giving us really fun pets for different occasions but I remember a small chunk of users last year who hated the spontaneity of April Fool's including the faff of swapping more pets that they had missed, in an unanticipated way.

I still would have liked more obvious April Fools themed pets however I also appreciate that some of the user base don't deal well with uncertainty or abruptness so it needs to be toned down sometimes, to find the best middle-ground for a massive user base that loves different things!

I don't think it would've been easy for staff to provide more of an explanation as to why there wasn't an April Fools prank / celebration outside of this clashing with Easter, either; tbh, giving more of an explanation similar to the above re: some people complained last time, and there have been complaints consistently over the past few years, would have only led to people being more critical that CS staff were hurt / annoyed / bitter etc. - which really isn't the vibe CS wants to give.

To be honest, a part of me also thinks that without needing to do April Fools this year, staff were able to put out so many amazingly detailed pets this Easter - I'm actually in awe & I've loved 100% of the pets this year, which I can find hard to do! Anyway, I'm sure we'll have other pets / themes to look forward to, so yeah, that's my [long] opinion LOL

I was happy enough with the pet box tbh. The fact that this game is getting monthly updates after 16 years is something I think gets taken for granted a lot (no one in particular.) They could always tack a make-up event on the schedule like how they used to do Mardi Gras. I do get why people are upset and confused though.

It's pretty unexpected and maybe a little weird, I agree. I normally quite like CS' pranks - messing with pet images or even the site's skin can be rather fun. We've had pranks during events before as far as I recall, so the reasoning seems a fair bit strange. A little part of me is wondering if there's something else going on behind the scenes, but that might just be me thinking too much into it.

However, I wouldn't go so far as to call the dev team "lazy", nor would I say I'm angry or anything over there being no pranks.

I’m disappointed too, there is nothing wrong with being disappointed, when an event that normally happens doesn’t happen, it is just the consequence of expecting it and then it not happening. I wasn’t even expecting much, I’ve only been here for one April fools, last year when they put googly eyes on pets. So nothing like the previous years where they did crazy things, I’m a bit sad I missed out on all the craziness of years past, it seems funny lol. I get the crazy things are a lot of work but it’s kind of sad if they aren’t going to do that ever again.
I wish they could’ve done something simple like last year where they put googly eyes on pets, like funny hats maybe?? And none of the Easter pets had to be effected, not to confuse anyone.
But it’s their website so they can do what they want, shrug.

There was a year where Easter fell directly on April Fool’s, though I wasn’t on this site at the time.

Okay, apparently my memory is just terrible. April Fool's has happened during the Easter event several times:
In '13 we had our avatars changed into goofy dogs.
In '15 we had pets turned into household objects, like chairs, lamps and rocking horses.
In '16 we had pets being put into an egg costume and a few pets were turned into that alternate chicken lineart.
In '18 we didn't have a prank, like this year. Same reason too, because of Easter.
In '21 we had pets turned upside down.
In '23 we had pets get googly eyes.
And finally this year, nothing happened.

So we've mostly had low-effort pranks when April Fool's and Easter collided, "apply this item", "flip the pets" or "change people's avatar". But we've also had one very high-effort prank where the artists had to recolor a BUNCH of household items into CS pets colors.
And then we've had two April Fool's where nothing happened because of Easter.
