There used to be a section on the forums dedicated to the visit to Anthrocon. Everything has been deleted now, I searched for my old posts but couldn't find itThey had a topic asking what CS pet people wanted as a plush. I'm pretty sure Avian was the most popular option, but the Sunback was the 2nd most popular. There were some people (like me) who preferred having an actual CS pet as a plush rather than a mascot, which is why I think they went with the Sunback.
The plush was never officially released, but they did release a plushie Sunback as a CS pet later on. I don't remember what year it's from so I can't find it in the archive, but I'm pretty sure it was a nod to the real-life plushie that never came into existence.
They had a booth at Anthrocon with a lot of the CS staff present - I think this was really the only time you could meet all of them in person. Both Tess and Nick were there, I got to meet them and take a picture with them. There was lots of merch including a mug with Avian and Totoro on it, magnets, pins, keychains, stickers, and charms. CS AC had merch that the online CS store didn't have. I also got a flyer that advertised the site (probably for people who didn't know what CS was). Since the Sunback plush wasn't ready, you could write your username in a book and they were supposed to give you a discount when the plush was actually released.
The site staff posted photos on an official thread in the Anthrocon section of the forums. If you gave permission in person for your photo to be posted, I think they even mentioned people's usernames? I'm assuming that these photos are a reason why the entire AC section were deleted - the staff was definitely bending the rules there.

having been on CS for well over a decade now, reading through all of this was honestly so nostalgic. i remember initially planning on attending anthrocon and actually going as far as booking a hotel for it, but then it ended up falling through in the end. i'm still super upset about it and regret not going!! i also remember the cake competition so well; my friend and i at the time would spend hours scrolling through and looking at everyone's entries.
it was also a huge throwback seeing all of the old linearts that have since been changed! i remember well when that happened but for the life of me, i could never remember what the old linearts actually looked like. thanks so much for taking the time to write this up gravy!!

Just wondering, were you on CS when the sunback plushie was stated fo be released at anthrocon? And did you participate in the cake event👀
It makes me so happy I can bring some nostalgia to older members, and bring some new info to some of the newer players. Cs history is super interesting to me and I’ve been looking to add more stuff since I’ve created this thread!

I wanted to go to Anthrocon so badly but I didn't want to go alone or drag my mom along and I was kind of embarrassed to meet the staff, so I ended up not going and regretting it - though maybe it's better that no one got to meet cringelord Sea, haha. I also didn't want to ask my mom to help me bake a cake for an online game, even though she knew about CS 😬
