You know, someone just started a group for this, the Exterminators, over in the Clubs and Armies thread. They're going to do just what you guys are talking about - hoarding then deleting pets to make the rarities go up.
(I'm not advertising. I'm interested in this kind of thing too, and I want to see how it turns out.)
But I agree with Firestar. This would be very hard to do, and you would need a lot of very dedicated hoarders to make a significant change.

yeah my friend and me did this but then she wouldnt delete the pets. she got to love them or something cause she backed out. now i have a bunch of 2010 cats randomly but this time i want people who are willing to do this

although i am very curious about this theory myself..
i would feel bad for the pet that gets chosen to be deleted

and as for the red-eyed project, i have nothing against them but it was hard for me to
hoard those easily found pets. I,for one actually really liked them (never knew they were unliked- refering to another post)
so what if someone was trying to hoard the pet you want to delete? that would`nt be fair to them

It can be done. But you need 3 things to make it happen.

1. Disposeable riches. If you got the means to trade to get multiples, you have something to work with. Thats really tricky since you are giving away ALOT for nothing. I can see super rich hoarders possibly pulling this off. But they need to get past the other two hurdles.

2. Secrecy. Making it a public endeavor wont cut it. Too many people will hold back on downing the pets because they get greedy and want to keep them for the subsequent increase in trading value. If everyone knows whats going to happen to them, they wont trade or rather start stockpiling them and never trade them. So you can't really clue anyone in on the stunt.

3. Alot of dedication. If you are willing to realistically hunt down thousands of a pet, more power to you. It can take many months to get the volume you need to make an impact. I would argue that it would be easier to do this with new pets than old pets. Older pets soon find a permanent owner that won't budge for anything. Even under extreme overpay. So if you do want to pull it off. Pick a pet that isn't very old.

Now as an active hoarder,i find this extremely amusing,aka the fact that a while ago when i first joined i couldn't stand hoarders because i thought they didn't care for their pets and that the poor hoarded pets were simply left to rot in a group..../endofftopic
The point in what i said above is I have considered this theory.However,i am a very sensitive person,i get VERY attached to my pets,so i just couldn't delete them.
It takes will and dedication to do this,but it defiantly is something i'd be interested in seeing done.

I used to hoard grey second gens. We all know them lol
I had like 700 of them. Then I decided to quit (what never happened...) so I asked my hoard to be removed from the records thread.
I didn't want to bother Firestar with my hoard again, so I thought that I may delete all the dogs in my hoard and see if the rarity changes.
But I'm too lazy to do this and I still have 550 of them.

I actually want to see this happen.
I think it would be a pretty interesting project- Maybe not personally interesting, since I don't care much about the trading economy, but I do think it would be cool to see it happen, just because it could be done. :3 The economy of CS, as such, is almost entirely in your hands... So go ahead and do something with it. Make something rare. Make something extinct, even. I think it would be awesome.

The biggest problem would be, of course, getting people to give up their pets... And you have to consider inactive accounts as well. So I don't think you could erase a pet entirely, but you might be able to get close? Maybe? I don't know, but again, I'd like to see someone try.

If I was going to do this, the absolute last thing I'd do is make a public post about it in the forums... people who don't participate mustn't know what pet you choose. The honest, decent people who take part will delete the pet you choose, meaning the ones who do the hard work won't benefit from it, and everybody else who has one of the pet but doesn't participate will suddenly have got themselves a R/VR without having to work for it at all... If even one person keeps their hoard, they could end up with a thousand Rares, which they only had to trade a Common's worth for - because when they were trading for them, they WERE Commons. And even if you had the power, it would be wrong to force people to delete their hoards. What if they honestly wanted to keep the hoard because they like the pet, no rarity subterfuge involved?

Personally I cannot support this. If I had that many extra pets I'd gift them to newbies that want them, I wouldn't hoard a pet I don't like and then delete it so that it's harder for people who DO like it to get hold of it. And to me, it seems a little disrespectful of the artists. Not only are you saying you don't like their work, by deleting tons of a pet they've worked hard to make, but they made the rarities the way they are for a reason, and you're trying to change that just because it's interesting.

But I am under no delusions that anybody will actually listen to me, so I'll be interested to see what happens anyway.

I agree with you that it would be very difficult to make sure everyone was loyal and deleted the chosen pet. I'm sure there are many people that would get greedy and just keep the pets all to themselves. You would need people that can be trusted, and that were genuinely interested in this - not because they want a bunch of rares, but because they want to see if they can change the rarities.

But I think this is actually the opposite of being disrespectful to the artists. Pets that are rare+ are more sought after and more appreciated. The beautiful designs of common and uncommon pets are overlooked because everyone is searching for the rare. By choosing a certain pet to make rare, you are also making people notice and appreciate it more. By choosing a certain pet, you are saying that you like the pet enough to put in all the effort to make it rare.

And one more thing - of course the chosen pet would need to be kept secret, and not posted in the forums, or people would get greedy, like you said, and start hoarding them because they know they'll become rare.

But those are just my opinions.
