If it's not play, is the other meaning slow? I did a google translate of seinn and it said slow as well. Or it could be past... So many options xD

Bit if a stretch... but... what if it's an archaic spelling of the French word "Seine," or perhaps linked etymologically? Because Seine literally translates to fish, or fishing net.

I'm not sure about any of the rest of the hints but these fit the egg baby out of atwoods hints...

Different color snout is blue, losses something (Egg shell?) between stages, Feature never appeared on previous staff dogs (beak, wings?)
