'Je essaierai' is 'I will try' You were saying 'I will be trying to not forget.' think of the ending (in this case 'ai') as the 'will' part of the sentance. The same principle is also there in the was-ing/were-ing tense too.

Le terme correcte serait "quand je serais", puisque c'est le futur. ^^
