does anyone know of a good site with free resources for learning korean from a very basic level? rosetta stone is supposedly good but im poor haha

To learn the alphabet:
http://www.mezzoguild.com/wp-content/up ... etters.jpg

To practice the alphabet:
http://www.aeriagloris.com/LearnKorean/index.html

To learn a few words:
Genkie Korean : http://www.genkienglish.net/speakkorean/
Digital Dialects : http://www.digitaldialects.com/Korean.htm

Finally, the last and most helpful website is this:
https://www.learnwitholiver.com/korean/index.php

If you do not know the alphabet, then the last website will be confusing. This website does have the option of paying for a premium account... but the first week you get the premium account for free anyway (no need to enter a credit card number or anything, lol). When your premium account is up, you can still use it and it'll still be helpful, it's just some features won't be included, but those features aren't essential!
It is, by far, the most helpful though. I am very grateful I stumbled upon it! Even the free version is amazing. As I said, it just means there will be a few less features.

I got some great advice a while ago. Putting up sticky notes around the house to learn words.
However, there are a lot of different words that are apparently the same thing. What are the differences between these words?

Bathroom:
욕실 vs 화장실?

Brown:
갈색 vs 밤색?

Black:
검정색 vs 검은색?

Etc...

-
Edit:
Also! Can someone post all the *official* colors? Like, the most natural way to say each color? I know how to find color names, but like I said, I don't know which is best. One website lists at least 10 different words for the color white, and it's driving me crazy lol.

I just want the basics. Like blue, red, green, purple...No need for things like "lavender" or "turquoise"...(I'm pretty sure that's why I'm seeing so many different words for the same color lol.)

Thank you so much to anyone who can help me~

Is it just me, or does anyone else sometimes find that they've suddenly switched accents? xD I mean like, my mother is from 부산 and my dad's from 서울. One moment I speak in a Seoul accent then it turns into a Pusan accent and I don't even realise? Haha

Bathroom:
욕실 vs 화장실?

욕실 is a bathroom that especially can do bath or shower.
화장실 has bigger meaning than 욕실.
That can be toilet, restroom or also bathroom.

Brown:
갈색 vs 밤색?
갈색 is the common expression of brown.
밤색 means chestnut color.

Black:
검정색 vs 검은색?
'검정' from 검정색 is native Korean word of black.
And '검은' from 검은색 is adjective of '검정'.

I know that most foreign languages doesn't have that so much color expressions.
Example for the blue, (for easy compare, they are all verb)
푸르다.파랗다.푸르딩딩하다. 푸르죽죽하다. etc. are all called blue, but I can sure they don't mean the same.
It would be good for you if you learn advanced word later days. ^-^

So here are the basics.
빨강 Red
주황 Orange
노랑 Yellow
초록 Green
파랑 Blue
보라 Purple
검정 Black
하양 White

회색 Gray
갈색 Brown
남색 Navy
연두 Light green
하늘색 Skyblue
분홍 Pink

If you want to know any other colors, please ask again!

Oh I know that Lol.
There are lots of dialects of Korean but Busan's dialect is especially have the exclusive accent.
But when the people from other cities follow the Busan's accent, the Busan people will know right after that they are not from Busan. (People who are following doesn't realize.)
Dialect is that so much complicated.
Do you know 'Robert Harley'? (His Korean name is '하일')
Even though he was from USA, he can say complete Busan dialect.
He first learned standard Korean but the only reason he can only say Busan Dialect was he lived in Busan.
As Seoul is the capital of Korea so it's the right way to say as Seoul language, but Busan's accents are that so much addictive. XD

Both my parents are from 대구 but we now live in the urban areas, so I speak standard Korean. But sometimes with a Daegu accent. :)
Oh and fyi the standard romanization for 부산 is Busan ;)

I'll use your quote on the main, Kiyomice, thanks :)
I'm thinking of remodeling(?) this thread, starting from the title

That's pretty cool! I have a few friends from Daegu :) Also, thank you xD if you hadn't told me, I'd probably embarrass myself to the death, going around saying, 'Pusan' eek

Thank you so much! You have always been so helpful to me in this forum and I really appreciate it. I finally understand now why there are so many different ways to say colors! <3
