New pets are available to adopt on the first of every month. However, we are also in the middle of our Halloween event! This means that there are new gifts available every day, and you can collect tokens to trade in for additional prizes. Learn more on the event page:

Forum/viewforum.php?f=106 Rarity is determined by the amount of a certain pet across active accounts. The less of a given pet there is across active accounts, the rarer it is. Older pets tend to be rarer, as they are less likely to be on active accounts.
