Community opinion needed! UR Items, yay? or nah!

Hi everyone, we hope you enjoyed the Halloween event this fall. As most of you know, our next big event is the Advent Calendar. Last year we introduced an item re-release. Along with the item re-release, we released a set of rare UR (unreleased) items.



Reception seemed very mixed, one of the biggest critiques was that we've released UR pet themed cake items previously so the items didn't feel unique or special enough. Full transparency, the decision to release UR Items was last minute and we had these cake items that were legitimately unreleased from the last CS birthday, and decided to use them. I think these concerns were extremely valid, and as a result If we release UR item/s this year, we would make sure that the items would be more unique, they would not be UR cakes or items similar to stuff we have released in that past.

On top of the feedback we received about choice of items, some people were upset at the concept of releasing UR items in general. Some complaints stemmed from the difficulties around item trading with the lack of rarity tags compared to pets. Other people enjoyed the chance to acquire rare/unique items, especially newer users.

Please vote in the poll to help us decide how to move forward this year, feel free to share your thoughts about this topic in the replies but please keep it civil, this is not the place for lengthly debates about trading or the CS Economy in general.

Ur items are fun and I'd love to see them again; but I'd genuinely would like a second Re-release in the middle of the year so more pets/items are in the trading economy without crashing the values; rather than having UR items ❤️ (or have URs not counted towards a collection)

Also can we have posts about ninja trading awareness much earlier than the day of the re-releases? Constant scamming is becoming a major problem here :'(

I like them! But, I can see the problems with trading since they don't have rarity tags, mainly I worry about people who don't know their value potentially being taken advantage of.

I don't think it's a good idea. The economy is in shambles as is, and we don't need more opportunities for scamming/ninja trading.

We also need to have something about scamming that pops up in trades like the rarity tags update banner, especially around this time of year.

no thank you on ur items as it stands, but we would be more neutral if item rarity tags were introduced. its hard enough to trade items + track down what they are, where theyre from + what they may be worth right now, especially as a mobile user. too many users like to take advantage of others that arent as on top of values as they are as it is

I personally do not like the idea of doing this again. Last year when the items were first re-released, I was excited but then disappointed once I realized there were new UR items. I dislike both the UR pets and UR items being added to the archives every year, as for the past two years, I have had a complete free pet and item collection for that year, but I cannot get the archive checkmark for having a complete collection of the year due to the X symbol by the special releases. Another big issue I have with the UR items is like other users mentioned here, scamming. I feel this is an issue especially for the UR items, since items don't have rarities. I feel that many people will try to scam newer players due to this. I personally enjoyed the item release, but hated the new UR items.

I don’t really care about the trading aspect at all because I have no chance of trading for UR items, but I think it would be cool to have them again this year! I think the item name definitely needs to have “Special Release” or “UR” in it. But maybe it would be cool if it was a really big or unique item!! Like giant detailed backgrounds or maybe a large object like a train or boat or building? Or a play on the UR food pets but having like an apple orchard background or something? I just think there’s so much room for creativity or something really unique that chicken smoothie hasn’t had before.
The scamming is a big worry but it would be silly to say we can’t have them at all just because someone might get scammed. I don’t say this to diminish anyone’s worries about scammers, I just think it would be sad if the only reason they didn’t release UR items again was just because someone might get scammed. I don’t know anything about the really rare trading scene though so sorry if this comes across rude.

i think UR items are a fun addition, and would love to see them this december! however, i think it should be a bit more variety! less of a standalone item like the cakes- maybe a clothing or interesting accessory would be more fun! but i totally agree that there should be some kind of special indicator to prevent users from being taken advantage of- maybe a little star or something next to the item name?

I’m not against it! I think it’s a fun idea. But I do share the concern that we have no rarity labelling for items. UR pets have the benefit of unique linearts and designs, but all our items are unique which presents a different problem. I think there are ways around it, but they might not be popular ideas or ones CS would usually do.

My main suggestion is a pre-announcement about what the UR items are. A item reveal about a week beforehand on the home page, telling users to keep an eye out for these items because they have no rarity tags, and that they are worth more than your average event item. It might ruin the “surprise”, but it could also generate some hype and perhaps stop at least a few questions of “what year is this item from?”.

My only other suggestion is some kind of tag on the item itself - think of how we have chickensmoothie.com on our pets. Perhaps a small “UR” tag somewhere? But then that might ruin the aesthetics or use of the item.

Either way, as long as it’s implemented in a way that’s easy to understand, I support the release!
