To understand why we are updating the old fennecs, please read this brief history lesson:
Back in 2009 and 2010 we had a couple of artists on the team who created some pet linearts for CS by tracing or heavily copying from copyrighted photographs. We opened discussion in March 2013 about whether the images should be replaced, and many members expressed the opinion that those un-credited copies of photographs broke CS's own art rules, was hypocritical of CS to allow, and could potentially have been removed anyway if a copyright infringement case was made against CS by those photographers. We agreed and began a project to replace the affected images. This included 2009-2010 horses/ponies and other equines, as well as the old fennec foxes. We finished updating all the equines in March this year.
If this sounds unfamiliar, you can view the old announcements here and here.
However, as we promised, we still had 4 more pets to update - the 4 fennec foxes from 2009-2010. These have now been updated to the new lineart (new versions are pictured) The fennecs released this year are not affected by this problem and won't be changed.
The old fennecs were popular pets, but unfortunately those linearts were also created by tracing/copying from copyrighted photographs - without the photographers' permission. In order to maintain the artistic integrity of our site we agreed it was a good idea to replace these images as well. These old fennecs have now been replaced with the new fennec lineart to finally bring an end to our 2013 project to replace all traced linearts!

We have no known concerns with any of our other linearts so there is no plan to replace or update any of the other old pets!
I know that some of you loved these fennecs the way they were and didn't want to see them change, but given the potential copyright infringement issues we didn't feel there was any option but to remove these images from the site.

And with special thanks to the artists who made all of these updates possible:
Sorren Fey (coloring)
Chia (coloring)
Yulynh (new equine lines)
Lawliet (new fennec lines)
