Redirected to a page that says your Java is out of date?

Hey everyone,

It seems like Google has recently been serving up adverts on CS which cause a page to pop up (www . javaupdatesnow . com) that tells you that Java is out of date, and asks you to download a an update. This is this a fake site which is actually trying to trick to you install spyware on your computer. Real Java updates only come from java.com.

If you've installed that fake update, then please scan your computer with an anti-spyware tool like the Microsoft Safety Scanner:

This is a free tool which can remove spyware and viruses from your Windows computer.

We have disabled adverts on Chicken Smoothie until Google resolves the problem with their ads.
EDIT: We've now re-enabled adverts. Please let us know if you continue to be redirected to one of these fake "java/flash update sites" when you browse CS!

So that's why all the ads have disappeared. This is actually an improvement, I have seen some quite inappropriate ads around CS.

Oh, thank you for notifying us Nick!
I have been getting that message, however I've also gotten notifications from my anti-virus software saying it's a suspicious software.
It's a good thing I just closed that message, and went on with my day..

Oh thank goodness! I was like: "Waaahhh?! I thought this only happens on dA!?" It's happening on Eldemore and Flight Rising too to be honest. That explains why CS seems short now. xD

Wow, I'm glad I didn't click that when I saw it. It's a good thing that I decided to update Java later. Thank you for letting us know! I'll have to be careful on other websites now too. I'm going to go run an antivirus scan right now just in case.

Any chance that this has something to do with why I'm not shown a note about how long to wait for another halloween banner any more?
I didn't get the note, so I thought I could search again. However, after at least fifty refreshes on various pages I still hadn't seen a banner.
I found one just now, but still don't see the timer on a lot of pages. I see it on the forums, but not on the Archive, Home or Pound sites, or the Adopts, the pet groups, and... well, apparently, anywhere outside the fourms.
It worked just fine earlier.
