We need your feedback on an update to the rarity system!

Hmmm, the stars in the mockup above are placed at different levels of the bar... How would it look if they were all at same position for each "tier"? (possibly unbalanced) I think it might be easier to tell at a glance which category it is. Maybe we could also incorporate the different shapes as well:

OMGSC = circle
VC = square
C = star
(all on the left of the bar)

less common = circle
UC = square
VUC = star
(all in the middle)

Repeat pattern for rare categories, all on the right? And maybe OMGSR could have something different.

It might be too much but I can't do a mockup so I'm just sharing my thoughts

I agree with star placement, they look like they're going in 2s when they should be in each step imo!

I do however have to say I hate the idea of different shapes. I believe someone made a mock up of it and it looked so messy and cluttered. I think the words, colours and bar is enough to differentiate, I feel like it's almost insulting to people's intelligence to say 4 different ways to show something red is different from something blue is needed 🤣 (jk)
I understand the idea but don't think it's needed and I'd doesn't look great in my opinion!!

sorry if i'm spamming this thread a little bit!! i made a slight edit to them, i felt very common was a bit too bright and rare a bit too harsh, so i edited them a very tiny bit! in this one rare is a more similar color to the current rare rarity bar, instead of being so similar to the current very rare bar and so harsh!

To be completely honest, I think this design is basically just like the current design except now with more tiers and a bunch of stars being cut in half. I feel like without the context of a five star system the half stars don’t make much sense.

The star system was originally suggested as a better way to distinguish between the rarities for people who might have colour blindness or other sight difficulties.
So if the look of the rarity bar is going to change I don’t think I’d personally like it to be this minor

personally i feel half stars are going to be a necessary addition, as it’d be nearly impossible (as shown on your original 5 star mockup - you can really only fit 5 stars on our current rarity bar sizes without making them smaller, which would impair people’s ability to properly read them regardless) to fit 11 (if we get 4 whole new rarities) stars in completely unique places on the bars without having to shrink them significantly like shown in the example on the first post. i’d personally prefer for them to stay the size they are now. someone did mention people with visual impairments, these bars could have a toggleable version which includes different shapes for each category instead of stars, maybe!

the more i think about it, you could fit stars in between where each row would be to have them in unique places, but it’d be such a subtle change i don’t know if it’d exactly be a viable option, if we take into account visual impairments - people might not be able to notice the subtle differences in the stars between rarities

Hope the rainbow bar comes, makes OMGSRs worth having. Custom pets are few and far in-between and almost impossible to own so personally I find rainbow bar is best. Makes OMGSR special. Plus with all the new categories I'm sure OMGSRs would be even harder to come by.

... my idea of prismatic was more along the lines of "pastel diamond", something like this but a little bit less busy and distracting:

a great example would be from a game I frequently play, there you can add a prismatic border to your card and it looks like this:

it's very subtle in the rainbow colouring but looks very fancy and extra special, which OMGSR pets are!

I'm really in favor of this idea, since it's special, but doesn't stand out from the other colors as much as a rainbow. I'm ok with rainbow being reserved for custom pets and agree with this comment:

Personally I feel like making the omgsr rainbow would make it feel too separate from the other pets, and it just doesn’t look great to me. I hope it stays for the custom pets, as it makes them stand out the most!

Oh no!!! Oh nooooo nooo nooooooooooooooo!!!!! This is very disappointing! Adding 4 more categories of rarity might seem simple to people who are new and people who are only on here for a little time but to those of us who have been here a long time, 4 new rarity categories is going to be a nightmare!!!

There will be hundreds, if not thousands of pets to be moved and that takes loads of time. I like it better when they sometimes change a rarity and then we can just go move a few pets to their new groups rather than now if they do this, having to move hundreds of pets is going to be an absolute night mare.

Okie, whatever, been here long enough to adapt, just not liking the idea of having so many rarities. I didn't even like it when they added the omgsr to the list years ago.

Very excited about this! I voted for four new categories - while it'd take some getting used to for sure, I think it would make trading much more intuitive and accurate.
