Hey there Nick and Tess & other staff members. I have an idea for next year's Anthrocon which I assume you'll be attending. I'm from low income and won't have a good paying job, so I probably could never make a trip like that. However, if airfare or bus fare and perhaps a 1 or 2 night hotel/motel were paid, then myself or others in my situation could likely handle a couple days of food/drinks, fan purchases and such. I have a thought about a drawing/contest.

What if, and this is just a thought... what if you had a place on Paypal where people could buy raffle tickets and/or donate funds toward a drawing ... or maybe call it a raffle, and then people who are interested could put their name in the drawing and you guys could select 1 or 2 people as lucky winners of a partial expenses paid trip to Anthrocon. Not necessarily WITH you, but at least a hotel and airfare or bus fare and a pass to get in. Or, maybe, sell raffle tickets for a buck or 2 each and make sure that the winner gets the tickets and room to go to Anthrocon. If they elect not to go (work, or underage, or other reasons) then you'd just draw another name and send them some kind of consolation prize such as C$ like you did on the cake contest.

You could title it something like "Anthrocon 2013 Raffle Winner receives paid bus or airfare and a nights hotel room paid and entrance fee to visit Anthrocon. $1 per ticket." With 200,000 plus members and many wanting more than one ticket, I'm sure that there would be plenty in the fund by next year to do so. You might want to limit the tickets people can buy though because ... well personally, I think,... if someone can spend $100 on raffle tickets, then why not just buy bus fare and go? Any other funds left over from the raffle after you were to purchase the needed tickets, of course, could be used as alternate prizes. Of course it would all depend on how many people joined the raffle.

Anyhow, it's just me musing, hope you put it into play. I know I'd spare $5 for a chance to go to Anthrocon next year. You could also give a button or a prize to people who donate funds and don't want a ticket.

Hope you all had a lot of fun, I'll bet you're all exhausted.

Hope you liked my "Chicken Smoothie" fan art Tess, and I absolutely love the new fan art done by spotty as seen in Tess' signature, the one of Spotty's Hyena on Nick's Unicorn's back. It's adorable.

There's always a way. While my trip was free using airline points, I found out when I got to Anthrocon that I could have shopped around and got a bus from New York to the con for $15 round trip. :shock: It takes about $10 for me to get to New York so I could have gone quite cheaply- about the cost of taking my lunch in for a few days instead of ordering a dinner or lunch. Look around now and see if you can't find a cheap deal :) You have all year to find one!

It doesn't work that well if you don't leave anywhere near it, it's 28 hour car ride, and there are no bus routes for me, and flights are expensive, this sounds like a interesting idea.

My only issue with this is they'd have to raise a lot of money. It's over $500 for just a hotel room and parking fees Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, and that's not including the expense of whatever form of transportation you end up using. It could be as little as $40 for gas for one person, or as much as $1000+ for anyone flying round trip internationally.

That's a lot to ask from a site where, no offense, most of the members are younger than 18.

There's a lot of us who need to save up all year to do this. It's tough but it's not impossible.

i really want to go, but i am under 18, and my mother does not understand how much i like this site, and never let's me go anywhere, i mean, even if it was like a four minute WALK from our house she would say no, if i bought everything myself, she would say no, so there also seems to be alot of these issues, and it is not just a matter of money, cause what if the players that get chosen are not allowed to go...then what? redraw...maybe not...

To those who are asking about CS going to another convention:
FAQ wrote:As a lot of our staff are flying in from far-off countries for the convention (Belgium, Japan, New Zealand, etc), it is already hard enough for us to make this one appearance. If we have a great success in Pittsburgh then we may consider doing something similar again in future years.

Anything this year/next year is most likely out of the picture so please don't get your hopes up. ^^;
