I'm stillconfused.
So all of sudden us older mebers who had learned over the years how to trade fairly,dates always mattered,rairties matter(Which they still do.),so we throw that in the trash?
We have to learn how to trade all over again?
I mean alot of the older members are goingto just be a bit weirded out by it.
Well i mean Nick said dates don't matter anymore.
So is that implying we could trade 2012 VRs for 2008 VRs?
I'm just really confused.

Just because both are rare doesnt mean its fair
the way rarity works is how many of the pets there are. so the range for a pet to be very rare could be 1000 pets available to 10000 pets, which is a huge gap for being very rare.
So say a butter wolf was very rare and so was a dog. your saying it would be fair. which could be very false
there could be 1000 of the butterwolf available and 9000 of the dog available, making the butterwolf more rare even though they are both labeled as very rare.
which means, dates, demand and other things are taken into account.

Thank you Nick! This will be very helpful and easier now! I am actually glad there are more very commons, and commons! Now we have more of a variety of Rarities! And I am in love with "OMG So Common"!
I woke up this morning and saw I had a new trade, I clicked on it and so the bars and I saw a rat that WAS uncommon, said "OMG So" I stopped reading there are said "What???" Then I finnished reading it, then laughed at myself.

I really love and appreciate these changes! And I somehow benefited! My Very Rare turned OMG so rare!

Couple quotes for you guys asking about dates. Keep in mind I am not supreme and almighty like Tess and Nick so my guesses are just as good as anyone else's, but dates do still matter.

Of course it still takes a bit of knowledge and investigation to work out which pets are 'rarer' or more valuable/desirable than others, but that's always been the case. Newbies should be able to pick it up faster now, since their pets display a wider range of trade values, and aren't all uniformly "uncommon".

Dates will always matter, and as Vampy said a few posts up, litters will always have different rarities. It would be like, a year down the road, looking at a little now that has three outcomes:

Rare
Uncommon
Common

Three years down the road, they're now all Very Rare [keep in mind to get to OMGSR there is a HUGE gap/difference]

So just because now they're all VR does that mean they're equal to each other? No; because their starting rarities were completely different. Time has just "hidden" this from us. Hence why rarity knowledge, dates, and the rares list, play a key point.

But this doesn't make much sense wuth what Nick explained in teh first post.
I have understood it as Galapagos explained it better, that for example, a pet is labeled rare if it's number is somewhere between 600 and 700 (I am just making this number up for the example). This is is true for all pets, independet from their year. So there might be 650 SpiderwebButterflies, and also 650 Lynx Pps on active accounts on CS. Therefore, they are equally rare, independently from their years, and should be worth the same.

Okay, let me explain this better.

This is just an example; but lets say in order to be very rare there need to be between 200-1200 pets on the site to qualify for very rare status. The gap is VERY large.
So lets say there are 250 Spiderweb Butterflies
But there are 1000 Lynx PPS

They are both the same rarity, but have grossly different numbers.

The numbers aren't that close together. Rare and very rare have a HUGE range.

Trading is still basically the same. The only two differences are that rarities actually matter now, whereas before everything was uncommon whether or not it was. Also, dates mean less. They are not gone altogether. For the dates bit, I'm just going to quote myself from earlier ^^'

I think dates don't matter is a bit of an overstep. I think they just matter less. Now a January 2012 can be traded for a July 2012. Before it was seen as totally unfair due to what people called the 'three month rule'. If they were more than 3 months apart, it wasn't a fair swap. It will make trading within the same year easier. A lot of people wouldn't trade a January 2011 for a December 2011. Now they are closer to fair since they are rated equally. I still wouldn't trade my January 2010 for a December 2011. Age will still matter because of two main things. One is because just like the last system, each rarity has wiggle room. One Very Rare is not exactly as rare as another Very Rare. Also, the older they are, the more likely they are in 'forever homes'. At least that is my take on this ^^'

The way I found out was I looked to start a trade, I was offering a few for an uncommon from 2011 I think, and I saw OMG so...common? xD I freaked out. And the bars made me think I was going psycho... but I see. This will help, I think, just once we get used to it! One of my horses turned VERY RARE!:D Thank you Nick!
