Rule Changes to Address Misleading Trades +Spam Guide Update

Genuine question. If currently the units are Non/MA/Old Rare, what difference does it make if I call them Apples/Oranges/Bananas in comparison to another guide that calls them Lions/Tigers/Bears if all units of measure lead me back to Non/Ma/Old Rare? And in terms of trading advice, how would it make it easier to gauge a fair trade if I say a pet is worth 10 apples, but someone else says the pet is worth 20 Tigers and originally the pet was worth 1 non? That just opens the door for scammers to say based on their guide the trade is fair, when it’s not, but when we are allowing guides to pick individual units of measure who’s to say it’s unfair then? Just looking for clarity as someone who truly despises value pushing.

I'm glad to see more attention being paid to the issue of ninja trading and scamming. Protecting newer players should always be a priority but this just isn't the way to do it. This rule will only result in further confusion and chaos than it aims to solve. Forcing guides to invent unique units will make it even harder for players to understand how trading works around the site. I think we're focusing on the wrong thing here. The solution isn't really dismantling the usage of shared terms, it's targeting deceptive behaviour. Players can mislead others regardless of what terms they use. This won't prevent any bad faith trading, it simply just changes the labels. I fail to understand what this aims to solve. If anything, it seems like it would just make it easier to take advantage of players.

i do quite like this as i dont understand what some terms are but do feel like people need to be made to atlest post what form there using as ref when comes to theses code words bc people might start saying something worth some using a random word and the other person having no idea what they mean.

It honestly just feel like a loop? you ban one thing but people are just going make a new thing and it get even more confusing if people are naming stuff different things

{ I'm ECSTATIC to see these terms finally going away when every guide and then every trader out there uses them to mean different things. with a change this big now maybe instead of 20 different trade guides everyone will put their heads together to make one solid set of values which will faster weed out scammers. I hope staff plans to bring the hammer down on known scammers with this change as well. ♡

I am as well just because nobody has been able to fully explain to me (or many other players I know) what a "mid advent" even is. People will always try to scam others, I feel like this will kind of start to help players who haven't been able to figure this player-made system out.

I'm in the same boat here, I could never grasp the Rare's List when it was thing and I rarely bothered with MA/Non, so for those in the same boat as me and have either been successful or unsuccessful taken advantage of due to ignorance, I'm hopeful this will be a good change in the right direction. I pretty much gave up on ever trading for pets from 2008-2011 because of this, and became way too scared to trade any rare or higher away, didn't matter what year or species it came from because I had been oblivious and taken advantage of in my earlier years. I do use Oreoz's script, and it has helped me a lot with trading this past year but only for pets that didn't use the whole MA/Non terms, because even if I tried to make sense of it, I was still somehow misunderstanding it so I just gave up on it and just focused on hoards and recent year/months. Which is still fun and all, but it would be nice to somehow have a chance at earlier year pets without having to jump through so many hoops. Otherwise, I am curious to see where all this goes and hopeful to lessen the whole scammer problem.

I did catch the explanatory response [very kind of the user to add that! /gen] but that only proves the issue-- why are we saying 10 of x value equals 1 of y value instead of just. this pet is 100 rares. this change will probably [hopefully] steer away from the chaotic tons of excessive math and just break each pet down to one or two single values. the trade economy on this site is already hell because the system is so backwards confusing to understand [even as an old player who's spent hours trying to wrap my head around it so I could help with pet values]. and who knows, maybe if we're pushed away from complicated math and can break it down to this pet is 100 rares period, the economy will start to restabilize? ♡

Been watching the discussion, and I'm agreeing with ya-

When old rares came into play, it helped me get a good GRASP on understanding the list AND allowed me to trade UP ON the list easier than it was. I feel this would punish newer players trying to climb up the list too...

Until this blows over, I'm going to be super wary on trading valuable pets. I don't know what's going to be worth what anymore.

hi !! im glad something is attempted to be done about the trading situations, i look forward to stricter enforcement on fair trading ^^

however, i'm confused about this update. the original problem was that people were co-opting the terms ma/non/old rare and giving them their own definition, which led to new users having to navigate blind while scammers talked like they were experienced traders. if users are free to continue using these terms as personal values, and guides can't define them anymore (which i assume includes horror's guide, where they were invented and clearly defined), doesn't this just exacerbate the problem?

as a real world analogy, i think this is like if the government found out people were inflating the value of a dollar to scam people, and instead of enforcing a clear dollar value and cracking down on scammers, they just... stopped having an official currency. now all values are up in the air and anyone who talks confidently enough can scam whoever they want. if i'm missing something i'd love to have it explained better ^^

Standalone, without prior context and knowledge MA and NON are undescriptive words but they are easy to look up imo and I are a solid system to determine worth and offer a common ground with other users.

Finding a better name for these terms so it is easier to understand/get started with trading in these values? - I'm all down for that.
Trying to ensure that "old rares" in this context are better defined? - Yes, please
Looking into if there are inflated values for specific pets? - I'd expect there are but I feel other systems are worse in that regard.

However banning these terms without an alternative? Like the actual system behind MA and non? - I'm like: what else should I use? Any other semi-established system in my eyes just inflates the values for older pets even more (and not just a specific handful, were demand is a genuine factor)

I think stripping away something that is widely used without a properly explained alternative just invites further scamming aka. making the scamming and ninja issue even worse.
