I think that it's just the old trades that haven't adjusted to it yet because when I go to add a pet the rarity bar is there..

I think you're right. I just tested it myself. My old trades have the codes, but when I go to make a new trade the new bars are there.

I dis like it cause a lot of the pets I traded highly for are now demoted. I find it un fair. Sure I think the bar is a cool idea. Bu don't change the entire way chicken has been.

Yes, there are less '09 pets out there than later years, but with the new system there are about as many of a specific '09 rare as there are of a specific '08,'10,'11, or '12 rare.
