My perception, based on looking at the past posts here: it seems that tons of users held onto those rarity tags a little too tightly. That's definitely not to say that the rarity tag isn't important of course, don't get me wrong, there. But to me it's more about collecting the pets that you like the design of regardless of what its rarity is, rather than only considering rare+ pets to be worth having and all that. c:

thats definitely true!
I remember when I joined, I didnt understand anything about rarity, I just traded for the pets I liked their design of and lots of my dreamies were 2009 or 2010 rares/uncommons^^

Image
this one to be exact was one of my biggest dreamies, I just realised he went up from rare to very rare too :)

it makes me happy to see that so many older pets finally got a tag that represents their real value!^^

I think they're upset because a lot of their pets look like they're worth less now. But the thing is, everyone's pets look like they're worth less now (unless you had a lot of older pets) so I don't really think it will make trading that much harder. I think people are also concerned that trading for older pets that used to be uncommon will be harder. And they're probably right, to an extent. Most knowledgeable and older users have always valued the old uncommons highly, so the change probably will make trading for them somewhat more difficult...especially at first...but I don't think it's going to be that drastic of a change.

hamhampatchi wrote:Welp, investing in '09 and '10 UCs was a very good idea. I have over a hundred rares now and I've only been playing for a year.

I think I now have 2 new Very Rares (a Malk fish and the 2010 New Year's Dog) that aren't store pets as well. :3

Also I really like how more horses and rats are Uncommon and Rare now, because I've wanted to collect more of them and now they actually have some value attached to them.

I guess that's my tip to other new-ish players. Invest as much 2011/2012 Uncommons as you can now, because those will likely go rare in a year or two :)

I agree with this. I've been playing longer, but had a similar situation. I more than DOUBLED the number of pets in my rare trades folder because I've always kept a good number of older uncommons on my WL since they're easier to trade for than rares, and more likely to go up. It definitely worked out well for me!

Another tip I'd add is to invest in uncommon event pets that required tokens. They're another group that tends to increase in rarity faster than others. Also, look for the rare pets that recently turned back into uncommons. You know that they're a bit more uncommon than other uncommons that never turned rare, so they're likely the first to go up.

That's what I did a couple of years ago when there was a big rarity change. I started collecting uncommons that used to be rare, and I put them all in a special locked group They've been slowing turning rare again for a while, but with this update every single one is rare again and my rare trade folder is huge now! It does take a while...it's not a quick solution, and it's not a guarantee. But it's a strategy that should eventually pay off.

My Eat Me dog is OMGSR now, while my Red Cerb and Drink Me dog have both stayed VR.
I love this update. (T u T)

I have so many uncommon pets, now I need to go through thousands of pets to see if any of the rarity's of changed in all my groups. xD
I am Darkness #134716 on wajas

I will trade most of my CS pets (Except ones in my favorites) for CWP for Waja's, or for chicken smoothie dragon pets for the same/close rarity. Message me here, or there, but faster response on wajas (Mainly because I don't log into ChickenSmoothie very often).

Users want an omgsr tag, and if those pets were rarer before users will want them even more now- demand will increase. The old 2010 uncommon that went rare will now be harder to get a hold of because people will be expecting more for them now that they perceive them as officially being rare (or very rare in some cases.)

It’s like if you price a shirt. If it’s priced at 10$ you’ll think it’s a cheaper shirt, but when you bump the price up to, say 30, people will view it to be higher quality regardless of real value. Those new omgsr, vr and rare tags are making the pets visually more valuable despite their original value before the update.

Rarity may not have changed, but the value has. People value omgsr pets a lot more, so people will likely be paying even more for them now (especially with the list being rearranged to compensate.) It will definitely be harder to get older pets as the gap between poorer and richer players just took a massive jump.

Good luck to those sorting, re-wishlisting and trying to make all those very commons worth something! Sending my best wishes your way ~

what? People were always trying to underpay for my 2010 uncommons. They were already “rare”, the tag just reflects that now. people now see they were worth more than what they were offering. I always got people trying to offer me current year uncommons for my 2010 uncommons and I always ended up canceling them. Logically I knew there was less 2010 uncommons then current year uncommons and that the rarity system was way off. This update proves my suspicions were correct. Only time will tell how much more accurate the system is. I might be more inclined to trade a pet with a 5-6 month difference instead of 3, maybe more (we’ll see)

Demand isn’t going to suddenly shoot up for old pets. Maybe for the older pets that were already rare if that’s what you were on about.... but in that case it would be fair since they are obviously worth a little more than pets that were on the cusp of being rare.

And I hate to tell you the rare list was never completely acurate. The list is made by “guesstimating” how many pets are in circulation with demand sprinkled in. Ideally they would use only circulation but it’s impossible since they can’t see how many pets there are. The fact September pets and such sometimes go omgsorare is proof of that. They should have been placed higher on the list to begin with. The rare list is full of very rares/omg so rares so demand for each pet shouldn’t change that much from the update. Demand might be slightly higher for a while but it will go back down to normal.

The only value I see shooting up and staying way beyond its actual rarity is the new omg so rare store pets.

I have a few things to say to this.
- saying “I hate to tell you” sounds really.. rude? And honestly just sounds like you think I’m stupid. I.. don’t appreciate the tone.. I’m aware of what the rares list is, but yet again it did help in persuading people into perceiving values as different, but that’s a different story.

-I don’t know who you were trading with but that’s not the trades I got for my old 2010 uncommons. I’m not saying value will shoot up for the normal rares, I’m talking about rares that increased in rarity. If an uncommon went to a rare, that pet is more desired because it’s rare now. Rare went to VR, it’s more desired now because it’s VR, etc etc. My main point was that a pet’s tag will always contribute to how valuable people view it, whether it be omgsr or vr, or even rare. People will always want a rare pet more than a common pet, or at least the majority of people.

I’m willing to take this to PMs but Don’t think it’s a good idea to go back and forth more than 3 times and clog the thread, so my PMs are open if you’d like to discuss <3

@ Cry_like_a_wolf Why are you so upset that a pets rarity now matches its tag? Do you yourself want more OMGSRs but can't due to their sudden 'demand'? Because that's how it sounds.. ^^' And there is no outrageous demand, not like when the skelebun turned, I see people trying to trade their pets for what they're worth, as they deserve. There's nothing wrong with that.

And you're always at risk of getting unfair trades, even if you knew the exact numbers of pets in circulation you're still going to get unfair trades.

Honestly, I've noticed that older uncommons were already treated like rares by more experienced players bc they generally know the rough value of their pets. I've only had my older uncommons treated less valuable by newer players that don't know better. Yeah the rarity tag alters the perceived value, as it should. Now newer players will actually know what to offer for these pets instead of sending so many unfair trades to themselves and their trading partners.
