Is there a requirement of what program an artist must use to create pets or no? (I'm a mobile artist atm)

You can use any program that can open and edit PSD files and export as a PNG.

When it comes to the color palletes, are color gradients okay? Assuming they're only utilizing colors the colors from the original pallete

Burrito Bunny answered this back here:
"Using these tools is fine, just be sure to avoid creating "new" colors by drawing the effect out too much. You can look at the past staff pets released in September to get a feel for how site artists have accomplished the task in the past!"

I have a question about the pet artist application template.

Will coloring in the shading on a different layer lead to breaking the palette rule, since I'm not editing the shading layer itself?

I've come across an issue where any attempts to color the shading on the blanket led to a much lighter color than the one I selected. Shading for the pets is unaffected and works just fine. The work around I found was to color the blanket shading on the blanket color layer, where it works as intended.

You can re-color the existing shading, i.e. darken/lighten/hue/etc., but you cannot edit the shading layer, i.e. add more shading, less shading, etc. Thus, re-doing the shading on a different layer would probably have small differences to the original, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

If you are trying to find the color used for the original shading of the blanket, you’ll need to increase the transparency to 100% and/or change the mode to normal (versus overlay, lighten, etc.), then you can eye drop the original color used for shading. I’m on mobile at the moment so I can’t see what effects the shading layer has on it, but those are typically the issues I’ve encountered. This process may look different depending on what program you are using, so if you need any assistance, feel free to PM or ask more questions on here.

One of the questions in the application asks if you’ve used any brushes other than the standard program ones. I use them often, so I have some questions:
- Are they allowed at all? Will they penalize your application?
- How do you want us to credit the brushes? Should we link to them or is naming the title + creator sufficient?
- Do we have to mention brushes made by ourselves?

Thanks for the clarification. I still don't know what happened so i decided to delete it (wasn't that far in anyway) and re-download the template from CS. I opened it up and now it's working as intended.

This would be an example of me breaking something but not knowing how I did it. My college instructors would be laughing and saying "Welp, that's Cloud for ya". They seriously had no idea how I broke things sometimes...
