THANK YOU. This seriously should not have even been up for debate! Just done and dusted with an explanation as to why. There would be a LOT less people getting hurt and getting into such nasty arguments. Heck, people are getting threatening PM's over this!

Wow. You shouldn't say you and everyone who agrees with you are mature and everyone who disagrees is immature. It's not a fact, and some people like the old lines more then the new ones. You should accept that. You can say that you think they should change but still, be nice and respect others whatever their opinions are.

This isn't really a matter of preference, its a matter of whats LEGAL. Its one thing if they were changing them just for the uniformity but the lines didn't have such a shady past and negative attachments, but this isn't that world. This is the world where lines were traced, and we need to fix it before DMCA comes in and makes them red x's for us or whatever else may happen.

Opinions are good, but in this case, its not much of an 'opinion' issue as a 'what's legal' one.

Bolded that sentence because I cannot begin to explain how much I agree with you.
I hope this poll doesn't stay up for too long because it's just a waste of time keeping it up.
This is how I see it.

The majority is saying yes. Those who are saying no want to keep them because "They're pretty" or "I like the designs". Well, those pretty horse lines are stolen. And honestly, the designs are going to look way better on the new lines (look at the wave pony in Tess's post, for example), but that's just my opinion. It seems like the people who are voting no can't come up with an argument as to why other than the pretty factor, and I've seen "CS history" being thrown around a few times.

The horse lines are a shame to CS history. Art theft is supposedly not tolerated at all here, so why are they even still around? Using stolen lines is a black mark on CS's history, and I think making this change is a huge stride forward for bettering the site's reputation when it comes to artistic integrity, and I also think it'll give horse popularity the huge boost it needs.

We as a community pride ourselves on artistic integrity. It's time we got all of the lineart in line with that philosophy. If somebody isn't on board with making honest artwork, they aren't a good fit for this community and I sincerely hope they go ahead and leave.

Hmm...if CS truly and honestly wanted to pride themselves on being honest and all that stuff they would have gotten rid of this the minute they knew it happened. They would not have let it sit here for so long then suddenly decided to change it. Also, if they want to keep out art theft they need a ton more moderators in that section because more times than not I have seen art theft go unpunished. And when I did spot someone who had opied my art I reported it and they did nothing. That's all.

Then make sure a mod sees your reports about art theft. I actually think it's handled fairly well and see it very rarely on the oekaki and when I do it is fixed swiftly and appropriately.

And we're given an opportunity to fix this situation and make sure the lineart we use is, without a doubt, from an uncheckered past without even the hint of scandal.

I think it's a brilliant opportunity.

However, I'm really sick of people saying 'I know it's stolen but I like it!' Just because you like it doesn't make it morally or ethically ok. Equimagine herself admitted there were issues with the lineart. Tess is trying to involve us in the decision about whether or not to switch over. You are free to like the old lineart - I like it too, and I'm going to miss it.

But there is agreement that something non-kosher went down with that lineart, and we're being given an opportunity to vote to change it.

I realized my personal preference is not as important as the artistic integrity of the site.

Basically, if you admit it's stolen, which it seems everyone does, try to come up with a better argument for keeping it than "I like it and therefore we should despite the ethics". It's still 'stolen goods', and I think we can all agree that stolen goods aren't what ChickenSmoothie's about.

I agree with this. Not sure why the mods are trying to defend her and sugar coat the fact that her lines are stolen.

EXACTLY!!!!

I think that some people are just really passionate about the art theft thing.. many of them let their imaginations go wild.. many of them art artists themselves so it can get really personal.

This isn't people's "imaginations going wild', there is proof that at least ONE set of lines are traced, and you could make an argument for many more also being traced. One set of traced lines is bad enough.

I'm not an artist and I still take this very seriously. Not only is it the law, but it also makes CS more credible, and not hypocritical.

Also there are plenty of reasons to change them outside the line art issue.

Your point is valid.. However.. I disagree. I cannot look at the pictures and convict someone years later. I guarantee you there is a whole backstory to this thing that we don't know. Tess and some others prolly know about it. I may see the weapon.. but the person is still innocent until proven guilty. I need all of the facts to convict her and that takes more than just the pictures. That would take talking to the person or people she allegedly copied from.. and that is not gonna happen.

^^^^And what is more important than that.. I was not asked to be on the jury. Tess asked our opinion regarding uniformity.. and cleaner lines... not whether or not we should make Equie dissappear.

^^^^^Again.. I repeat. there is nothing wrong with deciding yes because you think she traced them.... and there is noting wrong with voting yes just simply to protect CS's reputation and PREVENT any future issues.. but it is wrong to vote becuz you have "proof" and you know it all ... when you dont.

If this was literally jsut about what lines people like more then yes, it would simply be a difference of opinion. I quoted this because it brings up the point of breaking the site rules. And sadly, there's HAS been lots of immature people- on BOTH sides. No one side is completely blame-free, but it does make me want to go off and cry when I see people say that they don't care if some things stolen, they just want to keep their pretty lines.
(Also I didn't actually notice the mature part, so I apologise if anyone got offended over that ;w;)

Well said and I've been thinking the same the entire time. Looks aren't enough to sacrifice the integrity and morals of CS, no matter how much people may want it to be.

I'm with dawn on this. How exactly am I immature simply because I started out on this site with equi ponies/horses? How am I immature because I adore the designs how they are? How am I immature because I want them to stay?

You may not agree with us, but don't go insulting us. We respect your opinion; show us the same favor.
