That's different. The owners said as long as they no longer were called by the characters/books names it was fine - they can't claim cat designs when the franchise is a book with no visuals, and neither can the dragons (forget the series) when all they are are pretty much generic designs.

In this case it's tracing - totally different.

I respectfully disagree of a difference...yes the individual issue is obviously different but the issue at hand is the same....changing the past and recreating what has already been created. Everyone can have their opinion on how wrong or right something is but altering the past remains altering the past =)

This is why I'm on the lighter side of the art theft issue.
For those that are on the extreme side of the art theft issue of the fence, the next steps of that extreme would be to delete the warrior cats or overlay them with non recognizable art like scourge's collar and brightheart's face, re-do all the fennic foxes, delete all the malk dragons or change the colors entirely... at that point you may as well just streamline everything and make only one lineart for each species since we're worrying about old art theft.

At this extreme point of view of streamlining, this is a good reason not to allow any artist at all to create new lines ever. Only Tess should be making lines because there's honestly no way to trust that these kinds of things won't pop up over and over again.

You've also got the issue of the younger members that have been collecting these pets and don't understand the art theft issue at all or just don't care and vote on how pretty they think the pets are.

But there wasn't enough room :/

Instead of changing the equines, you should spend the time enlargening the sigs.

But whatever happens EQUIMAGINE'S HORSES MUST KEEP THEIR OLD LINEART

Otherwise Polar Foxy quitties

Is your whole CS account dedicated to collecting these Equis? Because, if it is, I can see why you'd quit - but if no, it's really not going to change anyone's mind about the Equis, people will still vote yes.

@eclipseranch, all that's being done is renewing the older designs to give them a boost. The main reason being the old linearts...until apparently quite recently...were quite unpopular in comparison to their newer counterparts. The past is still alive through the designs and the photos of the older linearts of the pets so it will never be under threat of being forgotten.

Well, I for one was never big into collecting any equines because I honestly didn't like the old linearts. Equimagine is an amazing artist, and I mean no disrespect, it's simply personal preference. I like the new horse lines a LOT more, I like how the horses look so regal, how the ponies are in mid-trot, and the draft is simply gorgeous!

Besides, even with the rainbow mane, isn't it the design that you guys like? I mean, the name of the horse is "Rainbow Mane" and it would still have a rainbow mane on the new lines.

Oh, and Yulynh's style matches up with the rest of the species very nicely :) Also, the inconsistency is killing me ;_;

Well, that's my two cents. I'd really love to see the unicorns, when they're ready :)

The unicorns. It's all about the unicorns. I seriously can't wait. I was hoping that a sneak peak of the line art was released while I was asleep. (:

^ Are they really changing the unicorns? I thought they weren't because they were not a consistent release, like the other artists' equine linearts. I'm now pretty curious as to how they'll turn out!

so your point is this is a popularity issue..hmm that is not what I read at all. Every month there is popular and not so popular designs..following your thinking then that would mean altering artist's creations on a regular basis to boost their popularity on the site....that would be an insult to every artist on here who spend a lot of "free" time doing this because they love it while trying to balance their personal lives too.. I love the new line art..couldn't be more in awe of the talent (being a horse owner in real life) However, the issue of altering work already created can not be justified in my mind for any reason!

Both the Warrior cats and the Malk dragons are, as far as I'm aware, fully cleared with the holders of their copyright - so long as no new pets are made based on the books' designs and the existing pets are not officially under the copyrighted names (as the Warrior cats used to be on their Adopt page), there's no problem with them.
