I’m curious as to if staff could possibly sticky a thread/make an announcement on ways users can avoid their triggers(browser extensions, safe ways to tell people them, etc.) and maybe just a general internet safety refresher? I think this could help users struggling with the new change and just minors in general who haven’t grown up with internet safety like us oldies.

agreed.
many minors nowadays are OBSESSED with oversharing, especially on their carrds and all over the internet.
this is dangerous.
it's harmful to list every single trait of you, trigger or trauma you have on the internet, because the people you are trying to stay away from, will use that against you. So CS, please do something along these lines.

i'm struggling to understand why this rule was necessary to add......... while i do understand that you dont want triggering content on a website for kids or for kids to share this much info, dni lists shouldnt be the target of that as they exist to protect users rather than to harm others, and not everyone shares all their info by doing so. a lot of people including myself make dnis so we can feel safe and so i dont get triggered by anything?? so whats the point of not allowing those?

I also agree. In fact, as a sort of detective for another old forum community (I track down old members so we can resolve legal issues), I've seen that even the kind of information that was standard to post on the internet at the height of internet safety can still be potentially dangerous in the wrong hands. I shudder to think what one could do with the kind of "bare minimum" information kids put in caards these days.
same ur two different years...what are the odds

some of us (including myself!) have extreme anxiety, and some other mental illnesses that get in the way of things like this. ive gotten into multiple mental breakdowns just from someone on my dni list interacting with me, and just thinking about it just makes me feel like regurgitating.
not to mention some people (also including myself) have ptsd that makes it difficult to talk to people that fit into their dni lists! either the cs mods are incredibly ableist or just dont know what theyre doing with this rule.
Definitely block the people you don't want to interact with you! And don't the fact that they do still interact with you kinda proves that DNI lists don't work? I don't think mean people are going to respect DNI lists.
dni lists still make us feel safer. it feels so unsafe just letting anyone interact with you without having something on your profile to say Not to. also what do you want me to do? investigate every single cs user and figure out which ones to block? its not that easy <3
yeah i agree

The issue was that moderators were being required to handle a large amount of reports involving DNIs that they realistically were not able to do anything about, which was leading to the moderators having to deal with the emotional toll of that.

^^ also curious about this! is there a way to mute certain words on CS so that posts containing them won't show up? that would make it easier for those of us who are triggered by things or wish to avoid certain content when browsing forums?

just wanted to say i like this idea. i feel like it's a wonderful way to put out those basic internet safety rules again, as i've noticed that a lot of people don't know them/don't remember them.

xxagreed w both of these suggestions! i think they'd be super helpful (if it's possible to implement them) and could ease a lot of the worry i've seen expressed on this thread.
