I would support that. I'm not sure if it would be the most convienient for the staff to do, but I like that idea a lot. On one hand, I love the oldest lineart the best, but on the other hand I'm very curious about what the new versions would look like.

That has been said and rejected many times, it would be too much coding and could cause new people to get scammed.

But how does trading work? It could confuse people into thinking ones rarer than the other or something. Or which would be default? And they're still plaigarised. People really need to stop brushing that off like it's no big deal. I don't think people realize a crimes a crime, no matter the magnitude.

I'd like to state my opinion about that, but I'll get a lot of people mad at me.

Most are choosing to ignore it for the sake of pixels. Silly really, but to each their own.

I still have 30 pages to go (missed a lot), but I wanted to throw these points into the air (in some cases, again):

1) http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1708030&start=1630#p52627382

CS wouldn't be shut down over the lines, but what could very easily happen if a copyright claim was made is that every single pet on the lines in question would have to be immediately deleted. No line change, no replacements, just zap so all you'd have is an error box in place of a pet. This could happen even if the lines weren't traced and simply resembled the photo, as with the grey horse photo, if they had enough evidence of "see, these people say it's traced and it looks close enough to me, so I'm pressing the suit and filing a DMCA on it".

Another site I go on had a DMCA complaint filed. The artists had 24 hours to replace the image, or worse legal stuff could happen (I can't remember the details since it's been... a year or so, I think). So yeah, the DMCA thing could easily lead to the loss of a whole bunch of images without warning.

Just throwing that out there. ^_^

*jumping to this DMCA debate as I'm on the same site with nickjr*

[snip]

DMCA complaints can be found on ANY grounds. On the other site, the picture (an avatar dress) in question, looked nothing alike yet the artists were still forced to change it. That being said, they still took inspiration from the original design and take inspiration from images of clothing for items they release now. The way DMCA complaints operate heavily favors the person who files the complaint.

It IS however, a trend with DMCA claims and that I know for certain. DMCA claims function with a basic template evident in how Youtube copyright claims do. Complaint gets filed, it gets pursued and unless you prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you did NOT trace/rip/what have you images from. Between small groups such as individual photographers or rpg websites, there isn't much of a battle to be had. Either you win the complaint is false or you lose and have to follow the wishes of the group that filed the claim. The odds naturally get stacked against the defendant.

That's not to say though, defendants haven't won DMCA suits. When the big dogs come out to play, it's always a legal battle.

The issue of what happens if a plaintiff wins a DMCA claim is a whole other issue though. That, I think, is what the crux of the matter is in this case. The potential consequences could be serious and the site could, as someone had mentioned earlier, have to remove all the pets with no redraws. It could also just be a redraw of the lines in a certain amount of time and change to the site. Because this consequence is unknown, it makes lineart changing seem to be the course of action to take, to avoid bad repercussions.

2) Just a note... many of the users posting about how art theft is wrong (which it is) and how equi's lines should be removed, and then they later say that they've forgiven equimagine...
I just wanted to let you guys know that it was a little hard to see that you forgave equimagine already when you didn't mention that you did ^^; a lot of your posts come off as blunt and occasionally a little irked/irritated/etc; it was hard for several users to know that you did, indeed, forgive the artist, since we didn't see anything that suggested you did ^^;

3) On another site I go on, sweety/dearie/hun (dangit I'm thinking of Mulan and the Roman Empire now ;A; what has happened to me) are used mostly in affectionate manners. So I wouldn't be surprised if some people didn't realize that it could be belittling.

4) I wouldn't be surprised at how many people didn't know about the art theft. I'm a loyal 08 user whose account is older than the Pound's account (and I left for only a year and a half and have been active when I didn't leave) and I never saw anyone breathe a single letter about this thing until I entered this topic.

On the topic of DMCA, that's all quite correct.
Would you rather have everything replaced nice and neatly now, or perhaps one day wake up and have your pets simply gone? Just code.

I would support that. I'm not sure if it would be the most convienient for the staff to do, but I like that idea a lot. On one hand, I love the oldest lineart the best, but on the other hand I'm very curious about what the new versions would look like.

It's who you talk to
I don't think Tess would have left it up to voting if she really believed it is such a big deal like lots of people are making it out to be, I'm sure the person who took the photos would give two craps, people keep stressing on the fact that they "are traced" the issue needs to be brought back to the fact that she said she wishes to do this for "uniformity" of the lines. Go back and read, that's the main reason she wants to do this. Tess would have already removed the lines if she felt it was so bad. She doesn't have problems with telling us the truth, this was already delt with when it happened the first time. I don't think she "traced" people can call be ignorant but I really don't care, Equimagine is not making money off this, and I really just want to find the photographer and talk to them to really ask what they think.I really don't think they would care.

Sorry to sound angry but the same crap is being repeated over and over. I still appreciate her work, I still love her lines, and in many cases, especially with her pony and foal lines, like her style better. If I was an artist I personally would want no part in switch over someone else's designs onto my lines, no matter if CS owns them. But I guess CS will do what they want. I love the diversity of CS and will miss these lines.
