Maybe this is another one of those "oops we made a mistake, let's do something about it and fix it" scenarios.

Its not some kind of accident or mistake if you knew about it for a LONG time.

Well I'm afraid only Tess or a mod could really answer that for you. We (me and others who have known since Equi was still on CS) have been banging our heads against the wall in silence over it for a long while, and we never really got a straight answer, either. I'm just happy that something is finally being done about it, even if it is a bit late.

I just think eliminating the lineart, even if it is supossedly traced (which, but the way, the artist assures us it wasn't), seems like an extra slap in the face for our previous designer. We've already had a big scandal about the lineart and decided to let it stay... why add to the shame of having a 'traced' lineart by eliminating it after approving its keeping? CS is a place where we are supossed to expect and accept mix ups and the past and all that; besides, the older linearts do have more personality... and frankly I do not like the new draft horse lines... or the pony, or the horses either.

Might I suggest a tick button on each persons user page? We could opt in or out to having the linearts changed for each of our profiles... the horses would appear with whatever lineart we prefer... if that could be coded?

I think an option button would be awsome! Then there wouldn't be so many stupid fights and arguments over new lines and all that stuff.

I agree to that, But what about trading? Trading for each different line would be hard because you could change them with a click, Also what would be rare and what would not?

All this arguing is getting silly, and regardless of what decision is made there are going to be people who are upset with the decision. It's been established that the lines (a good chunk of them, anyways) are traced and that art theft is not acceptable on CS, and many people are willing to disregard this, but is there any sort of compromise that people would be willing to take?
Arguing back and forth isn't getting very far and the poll is more or less deadlocked. Maybe it's time to start looking for solutions rather than resorting to insults and rehashing the same points over and over again.

You know, making a new arabian set of lines would be more work - but I think it might be an excellent compromise.

That way the old horses remain largely 'special', but we get out of the shadow of questionable lineart! c:

If that feature is implemented, it might be like the rarity bar option we have right now. It would be different for each account.

Also, on the rarity issue, only the images are changed. The rarity of each pet stays exactly the same.

But the suggestion they made was to still have it on the Yulynh lineart just with some simple edit, that just doesnt make it work. They need to be put on some lineart that is running, standing, jumping, I dont really care just something that is TOTALLY different form teh yulynh lineart. Otherwise they will be just like all of the rest and I dont think it would be fair to strip them of the differentness.

Just because nothing was done in the past, does not mean it's somehow acceptable to continue doing nathing.

This is a very important and true statement that lots of us need to remember.
Regardless of the fact that this issue was just recently brought up, it needs to be fixed.
Just because it wasn't recognised until recently doesn't mean that it can continue to be forgotten about like it was in the past, especially now that it's been recognised.
It's still art theft, regardless of when the issue arose.

Wib, you make the best points. I think this is a great idea! Maybe not the Arabian lines since they were special, made for those store horses, but perhaps a few simple edits to set the equi horses apart. Maybe a sleeker/longer mane on the ponies that covers their eyes, and either a shorter or longer mane + tail on the horses? This would make the whole idea a lot more acceptable to me, and I think I would change my vote over to yes if this was done.

(with the exception of the PPS ponies, which I feel really need to stay on those lines. They weren't traced anyways.. right?)

Minimanta: so, by your reasoning (the fact that the artist doesn't lose the original work no matter what is taken), it is alright for one to copy a published book, to record a song identical to one previously published, to claim something as their own when it isn't, since the original artist loses nothing.
That is incredibly false.

I don't see anything wrong in copying anything. But claiming the copy as your own is obviously wrong.

Tracing those horse photos is like copying a generic love story. Nothing unique or special about it, something that has been done thousands of times before.

So if a book was published with a generic storyline, generic characters, etc., it would be entirely fine for another person to publish an IDENTICAL book? No changes at all, same plot and same characters? Because that is what you are suggesting.
Equi DID proclaim it as her own by using it as a lineart. It was through a mistake, yes, but as I've said many times before, this mistake still must be fixed.
And before the argument is asserted that no profit was made: this is also false.
C$ is a large thing on CS now. It is purchased with real money to help keep the site up and running.
This C$ may be used not only to purchase store items, but to trade for desired pets. Some of these desired pets are traced Equi lines. Therefore, a profit is made from the traced lines. The minisculity of the profit does not matter; it is still a profit.
