Wouldn't that add even more confusion? Why does a circle stand for lower rarity or for a higher one at that? How would that make it easy to remember, when trading, which categories different shapes signify? (I do concede that the star would be a good indicator for higher rarities, since stars are always used for "special, rare, famous" etc.)
Totally fair point! It was just an example. Why is OMG so common blue? I think its just something you'd get used to and eventually it'd be second nature? I definitely don't think it's perfect, or that it would work for everyone, but that's also why itd be toggleable haha.
I mean, I'm not completely against the shapes idea. It would come down to design, I guess. I was just thinking about those who struggle with colors in general. The shapes would then help them to quickly see what rarity they have in front of them. Having to learn which shapes stand for which rarity would likely create situations where ppl mix the rarities up and it wouldn't be user friendly to new users, so my point is to make a clear and intuitive design.
You have a point with the colors (why blue stands for low rarity), but in this case it makes sense to me that you have cold colors on one end of the scale moving along on the color wheel (blue, green, yellow, orange, red, purple) to the other end of the scale. Orange, red, that stands for "hot, hot, hot", which represents well how these pets are treated, and purple is a royal color historically. This makes sense to me, maybe it doesn't to everyone.
Brings me back to my initial comment here: it would depend on the exact shape, I suppose. Luckily, we do have great artists who'd probably come up with something easy to grasp. Maybe it could be a diamond shape for low rarity, then a three-pointed star, five-pointed, eight-pointed. Or, alternatively there could be Roman numbers (would kinda prefer the stars xD)
