Many people come onto the thread without being aware of the tracing issue. While it might seem repetitive to those of us who have been following the thread, it is very important to remind people that the images were traced in case they weren't aware.
And while you're not wrong for liking the lines, the fact that you recognize that art theft is wrong should be enough to not support keeping them around. She's only trying to inform people so they can make educated decisions.

If CS was in any danger of legal trouble from Equi's lines, Tess would not have put it up to vote if they stayed or not, so don't even try using that as an argument because it's simply not true.

Saying 'oh only SOME of her lines are stolen so that's okay!' is a really really dumb argument I'm sorry.
They were stolen, that's it, it doesn't matter if its 'some', its bad for CS to say one thing and do another, which is what they're doing.
Frankly it shouldn't have been put up to a vote, it should have happened, and I have a feeling it probably will, because they. are. stolen.

I think you messed up the names on the quote? i just wanted to point out that I never said that. xD

Oops I did, that was my bad, I was rushing, sorry! It wasn't directed at you.

Some users say that her lines were traced from photos. equimagine has a longer explanation for how they came about, which in a few words is basically that she referenced for personal use, forgot about it when re-using old personal sketches for CS purposes, and that some connections other users made between photos and her lines were coincidental. Some of her lines closely resemble photographs that she didn't have personal permission to use, which upset many users, and was part of the motivation for retiring her lines in the first place. She maintains that she never intended to use photo-copied linearts for CS and that it was a careless mistake. She did update the lines for a second round but people still mistrusted her and her horses and ponies were not very popular at the time (although apparently have more support these days).

She updated the lines, so it's no longer a tracing issue, so it shouldn't be one here. People don't need to bring it up on every single page on this thread and attack people who like the lines. This is a discussion, not a "let's accuse everyone who wants to keep the old lines of saying art theft is okay" party.

I have a question -- how were Equi`s lines traced, if she used the Oekaki? Do you guys just mean copying the image? And what happened to her? I see that her account no longer exists.

That's ridiculous, and I think everyone here knows what would happen if you traced art. All your customers would get refunds and your art would be wiped off the website. So why no Equi? Not all the lines were traced, yeah, but we still need to get rid of the ones that were, at least.

Which would be the foal lines only, as those are the only ones definitely copied. The adult lines are not definitely copied, which makes them more of a grey area. They're associated with copied lines, but is mere association reason enough to warrant removing them as well when there may have been nothing wrong with them but they're still under that shadow? To many people, the answer is 'yes', while to others it's likely 'no'.

Edit @ KingOfSpades, equi's lines weren't made in the Oekaki. ;3

She didn't use the Oekaki for her line-art.

It is an issue, because the traced line-arts are still on the site.

I actually like the old horses, and I think changing them would take away from their "age". It takes away the character. Maybe for a holiday or some event, new horses could be made as a rerelease kind of thing. Similar to the Grown Up PPS? But I personally like the old Horse lines, but I like the pony lines of the new ponies better. Maybe only some of the horses could be changed? But leave the more iconic horses, like the rainbow mane or the 2009 Advent Reindeer horses unchanged. So only the normal old horses would be updates. I think that would be best.

Updating = changing the lines, so no, they aren't still in use as far as I know.

Even if only some are traced, the fact that stolen foal lines were kept up for such a long time is not reassuring.

The outcome of this poll, and the project will determine whether or not I continue to adopt pets on this site. =/

Her updated lines aren't all that different from the originals though.

Equi never used the oekaki to draw her images. She most likely used a drawing program like photoshop.
There are several users who have tracked down the stolen art work and matched them up with the lines to prove that they were traced. Equi left the staff awhile ago and her account was deleted as a result of the tracing.
