Hi, I have a question that may or may not be tangentially related to this rule- is it permitted to put on your profile "please do not send me messages about x?" (assuming x is a thing permitted to be talked about on CS, like trading a certain pet, or things like that) I have never had a DNI and I think I may be struggling slightly to understand exactly what this rule is disallowing, apologies if this doesn't make sense.

I would much prefer for people who live a way of life that directly causes harm to people like myself to stay away. And it's uncomfortable to know they can now freely talk and interact with me if they choose.
If they broke my dni before hand that was on them and they were completely in the worng for doing so, and now the line is blurred

WoodlandPunk wrote:Inappropriate conversation was the wrong word to use, I'm talking more, there are topics that are spoken about in here that minors should not be taking part in, such as a lot of topics I have seen within the adults only section. I have always made sure to only interact with people that have stated they are an adult in their bios. For my comfort
Another point I want to being up is that I see people with profiles that state opinions that directly attack and threaten my way of life. Am I not allowed to ask for them to stay away?
{it still stands that minors have always had access to the 18+ forums. The rules there specifically state,}
Please remember that although you may be discussing adults' issues here, all content in this board must remain child-friendly as it is visible to all ages. Be mindful of the children who may be reading your posts.
CS is a family website, and is not designed to host R-rated discussions. Please help us in keeping the site safe for everyone.
{I don't understand the argument you're trying to make-- if it's inappropriate for kids, it's not allowed on CS, period.}
{If someone's profile indicates they would be harmful to you, block them. Block them. The end. Problem solved. It really is that simple, and resolves the entire matter. Nothing was ever preventing those people from interacting with you-- having a DNI gives you the illusion you're protecting yourself but those people do not care and would interact with you anyway. The ONLY way to keep them from talking to you is to block them-- that is also not a new thing.}

objectively bad people often don't read DNIs to begin with, because they don't care. it unfortunately happens and you wouldnt have prevented that interaction anyway by saying so. bad people are gonna be bad.
but that isn't always true, even if only some people listen to it it still reduces the risk and gives people peace of mind

The 18+ boards are for conversations that tend to be more serious or mature in nature, but nothing in the board should be inappropriate for a child to read. People should not be having conversations on CS, in the forums or in PMs, that would be unsafe for a minor to participate in. I can understand not wanting to form close relationships with minors if you are an adult and vice-versa, but the safety of our underage users is more important. Stating that you are a minor on your profile makes you an easy target for people who look to prey on minors.
As stated on the main page, a huge problem with DNIs was that people were listing terms that children should not be viewing, such as specific criminals that obviously no one wants to interact with. It is unlikely that people who fall in those categories would respect your DNI, and we don't want younger users Googling acronyms or terms that would expose them to inappropriate content.

what about flashy/bright lights? are people allowed to say "please dont interact if you have flashy/bright lights/colours"? or is that considered a dni?
some people are really sensitive to bright colors, flashing lights, etc. is there something they can do about it? (for example, people who have kidcore themed profiles or hypercore/rainbowcore)

People can pretend to not like something, can pretend to care, can pretend to have read it, can even pretend to be older or younger than they are. If everyone remains as faceless as they can be, the less risk there is of somebody going out of their way to bother you. Relying on very personal information out there all in one place on what is supposed to be an otherwise anonymous website, where anyone can find it, is extremely difficult to moderate and enforce.
