i am really happy to see this new rule. i think overall, its very unhealthy and just asking for trouble to list all of your triggers for anyone to see. as other people have stated, people who enjoy triggering others are not going to be dissuaded from bothering you because you made a public list of things you dont want to interact with. instead what youve done is given them an easy list to reference. same goes for dni, do you think a racist or homophobe is going to read through your list and think oh i guess im not welcome here? or do you think either a. theyre going to ignore it, or b. know exactly what to send you to upset you? (speaking partially from things ive seen on tumblr. ive seen someone who listed they were a certain age in their about, and suddenly received a plethora of nasty inappropriate messages. if they hadnt listed their age, do you think they would have gotten those messages?)
i think also this is a very big problem with younger kids, especially on tumblr, where they list every personal detail, including triggers, on their about. its not healthy nor is it safe, what person online needs to know all that about you? especially any joe schmoe who happens across your tumblr blog or your carrd. those are very public spaces, anyone can access or view them.
i also want to say, it is not everyone elses job on the internet to protect you or accommodate you. that may sound mean but its absolute true. YOU are in charge of cultivating your online experience, and only you. if you see something or someone you dont like, you can easily navigate away from their page/block them etc. its even easier on chicken smoothie than most sites, because you have an option to turn off signatures, images, etc. if you know that a certain website triggers you, makes you uncomfortable, than you need to decide if its worth that to continue using the site. chicken smoothie is one of the safest sites that ive ever been on, in terms of its rules and regulations, the amount of features, and how active and involved their mods are. i really think this is an excellent rule to have here considering the user base, and i wish this would be implemented on other sites as well, honestly.
