I am really curious to see how this update may change some ways of trading. Nevertheless, like many others I will need my time getting used to it.
It might sound weird, but I am really happy to see more omg so common pets in my groups. I always was a fan of the blue rarity-bar coloration, however, it felt like over the years omg so common pets were seen less often and some simply turned very common - now some litters are literally drowning in them, haha. (Before you attack me, no, I am not making fun of someone ending up with omg commons only, I am simply happy about seeing more of the dark blue rarity bar used)

I may take a while to get back to your trade,

So far I'm fine with the changes that have been made. I'm wondering if people will now consider a recent rare to be equal in value to a much older rare. I always felt like older should be worth more, but now I'm questioning that and feeling like I'd trade any year as long as rarity is equal.
I also wanted to say that I'm glad I completed my goal of collecting every CS rat a few months ago. Before the change, I think there were six or seven OMGSR rats, now there are thirty-seven if I counted correctly. I started working toward my goal as soon as I joined in 2011 and it took me 12 years to collect all the rats (granted, I only spent about $40 in chicken dollars, so it was slow for a reason). I just don't think it's a goal that would ever be attainable now with the sheer quantity of OMGSR rats/store pet rats. People always say that rats are worth less than other pets until they have a high value rat to trade, then all of a sudden it's different. That's just the price of being a rat lover! It's totally weird seeing all my OMGSR rats now, like they all won the lottery overnight, LOL

I think some people are confusing rarity with value.
Rarity just means how many pets are in circulation. It's an objective measurement backed up by data, even if we don't get that data (which I agree would be nice).
Value is subjective, and based on a number of factors (rarity + demand + species + age + source + design + personal likes and dislikes). Asking CS to label pets based on value is asking the impossible, because everyone values pets differently.

I hope to see the same in trading with the dates. I can understand demand never changing but hopefully the clarity should start to seal the gap between years and make date trading easier. I think I’m going to change my trading groups to be sorted by pet and rarity instead of date and rarity now.

i agree with this! i love the update, but yes! the red and pink is really throwing me off
the bright red stands out more than the pink, which makes me assume it holds a higher value
while we do have the option of using stars with no color, i created a couple suggestions -
1st - switch the pink and red
while this is not longer 'rainbow order', the light pink transitions the light orange to the bright red nicely
2nd - make the red lighter, and the pink darker (personal fav)
this option keeps a 'rainbow order', but puts more emphasis on the pink and less on the red to help differentiate the value levels visually
the update is wonderful, but a slight change in the colors may help players visually differentiate values easier : )
I really like that second one. The pink also stands out because it's not in the rainbow gradient that was used. And yeah, having the same problem thinking the red is rarer than the pink

Personally extremely happy about this change. User-based value systems like “the list” being the predominant way of trading was resulting in a lot of pets being undervalued based on a lack of demand and a lack of concrete information about how many were in circulation. This unblurs a lot of those lines a little, and to me it’s really satisfying.
I loove that rainbow omgsr bar too, it looks so satisfying. I think more pets being omgsr is a positive thing, many were, as mentioned before, undervalued, and I think we have a pretty neat rarity bell curve going now which I find really satisfying.
Looking forward to how much easier this will make trading for monthly outcomes from past years, now that everything isn’t just a giant cluster of “uncommon” with a few commons and VCs sprinkled in. I really wanted to see the value discrepancies there a little more “defined”.

Something I’m curious about is how this is going to effect the new December 18th distribution boxes.
The past couple of years it’s been changed to have a box with a chance of getting a very rare or omgsr, and two rare boxes with chances of getting the new ur.
I wonder if this will be kept the same or not now there’s an extra rarity between very rare and omgsr, as well as the criteria for certain rarities seemingly being changed.

I actually came here to comment that I've already noticed myself caring a LOT less about dates in the handful of trades I've made since this rolled out. Super interesting to see how this will challenge our perceptions of rarity, demand, etc.
