And also, I think it would be useful to have a poll on this thread, so people know how many people applied for what, and therefore how good their odds are of being selected. If that's not an option for this thread, I wouldn't mind opening a discussion thread to host such a poll.

As curious as many people may be, the point of the system that was put in place was to keep such information private. Even if there were a lot of people applying, the choosing of members isn't really a luck based thing, it is based on member activity.

When applications were forum-based, only questions and applications were to be posted, so I don't feel that there is any need for a discussion thread. Additionally, I feel that it would only encourage spam.

Some of the staff member do pet designs even if they are no official artists for this site. I'm just curios how that would work if you are a ... e.g. a GH and wish to design a Pony litter, can you pm Tess and give it a try? Or is Tess choosing you?

I believe that General Helpers are not allowed to help create pet linearts etc. (Maybe another more experienced player can add on to this one ^^)

Since there are a limited amount of artists occasional litters from staff are allowed, however they shouldn't keep you from doing what you were hired for, there will probably be a place to put them. GH's also do not make any pet litters.

Say if someone were to have had a warning for getting into a pretty bad/heated argument, how badly would this effect the chances of getting picked?

(And if the warning was loosely around 4/5 months gone, and the person had got along with others fine since?)

I believe atwood's answer would cover your question.

Since so many people have asked about it, it's worth noting that it's very rare for anyone who has had a warning to be nominated as a mod of any sort unless the warning was minor and a long time ago (e.g. over a year old). With so many great applicants to choose from, many of which have never had a warning or their warnings are very minor/long since expired, having a recent or serious warning is difficult to overcome. In terms of seriousness, warnings for bullying, scamming, cheating/hacking or deliberate art theft (e.g. they tried to pass off another person's art as theirs) are probably the biggest no-go ones. To quote the application page (emphasis mine):

•We want members who have never been in trouble on CS for serious misbehavior like bullying, scamming, cheating, or posting inappropriate material.

So reading a bit back on the thread, I see that posts are
looked through when choosing people for positions.
Are PMs looked through as well, or is that kind of stuff
off-limits to most staff??
