Since Glow brought up the donkeys.. I thought I would bring this back up to the front. lol
PurpleBones88 wrote:I would really like the donkeys to get their own lines, since they have to change. However, if they are definitely going to Yul's lines.. I have asked if they would consider using the PPS lineart.

If you look at the images together, it would look good. The head would remain foward and it would remain donkey-ish... and not so.. pony-ish.

Image to Image.. instead of Image

However, barely anyone responded to my suggestion... so I have NO clue if Tess or an artist or anyone has seen it. Or even what anyone thinks of it. I suspect that everyone is distracted by the regular horses and ponies.. or else they are not really concerned about the donkeys...

Just a "Hey, I will take that into consideration." to let me know you've seen it would be fine with me..

They changed the lineart due to their rules, which is a good idea because who wants to get in trouble, and possibly have the site get shut down or something else bad happening because of linearts heavily based on photography.

I will miss her lineart, as she did a great job, but it's time to move on and adapt to the new and let go of the old, though the old shall still be treasured. (:

@S a v a n n a h :: There are lots of sites and games out there that are way beyond their "original" stage. To me, CS hasn't really changed very much, just a few improvements here and there every now and then to help make things easier. CS in 2009 was a bit diffrerent than it is now in 2013, but that's what happens when time goes by, things change. Most of the time for the better, sometimes for the worst. The lineart is being changed due to legal issues, unfortunately.

@Raven of Shadows:: What legality issues are there? I was never told of this.

I can see why people would be sad, some just preferred the old line arts.
I can understand that, but it really was for the best c:

The last point is correct, whether or not you want to believe that about CS or it's staff. Several of equimagine's linearts were copied from photographs. We don't allow our artists to do this, and we weren't aware it had happened until many months after releasing them on CS. After the evidence came out, equimagine freely admitted to copying, but said she made a forgetful mistake when she re-used those lines for CS purposes - she had originally drawn them for anatomy practice before joining the staff, and forgot about the references she'd used to draw them. After we found out, she updated her lines - which is why there is a second version of her horses/ponies on the site. I believe she didn't trace or copy any photographs for the new versions, but some users still didn't trust her and found similar poses in photographs which they believed she had copied parts from. Due to all the controversy she left the site in late 2010 and we hired a new artist (Yulynh) to give us new lines and put all that drama behind us.

Whether it was accidental or not, the issue is still the same - some of her lines really are copies of photographs.

I am happy to see that these traced linearts are being replaced. It always bothered me that they were still allowed on CS and not changed for so long, even after the tracing issues came to light. Even if some of the older designs might look better to me personally, morally, I think this is definitely for the best and worth any "loss of quality" that people, or myself, might think has happened. I will admit I'll probably miss the fennec foxes when they go, but I look forward to seeing the new designs.

Especially on a site where people pay for some of the designs, tracing is simply inexcusable and I am glad to see it go once and for all.

Awww, I really liked the older lines better....I wish we could just update the copied horse linearts and not all of them, y'know?

But I'm not too down about it. Though I liked the poses of the old ones more, I don't necessarily mind the current ones. I just kinda liked the seperation between the old and new horses. :D Oh well.

@S a v a n n a h :: Basicly what Fiery just quoted, which explains it all.

And about the drama thing, why do people get so dramatic over everything? Lol, I'm just a very curious person and tend to bring up these types of questions. So why do people get all dramatic over linearts? I know they are refrerenced from photographs, but come on people, it's not like somebody's about to die a horrible death and turn into a zombie, then eat your brains, which triggers a zombie apocolyspe.

Are you suggesting the donkeys be remade on the PPS lines instead of the pony lines? I think that would make them look like babies, which most aren't. Also, what would happen to the PPS donkeys? They wouldn't be unique anymore, because all donkeys would be PPS. I think, being as donkeys are not ponies, they should have their own lineart. They share some similar traits as ponies but simply slapping on the donkey colors and ears does not make them donkeys. However, they are similar enough that it wouldn't be a tragic thing if they did end up being remade on the newer pony lines rather than having their own. I'd simply like to see them be their own thing. They'd really only be ponies if they're done on the pony lines...kinda like how some cats look like dogs and some dogs look like cats, but they're really just cats colored and edited to be similar to dogs and vise versa. They wouldn't really be donkeys unless they had their own lines. I feel that way about all the unique species.

I absolutely adore the way you put that. I think that's been my problem with it this whole time, and even I didn't see it until someone else said it. Changing their lines is making them the same as everything else...Which isn't any fun. I do like the new Draft lines, and some of the new ponies look wicked, horses too. But they're becoming cookie cutters...wow...

I don't understand this cookie cutter argument.
They aren't losing uniqueness, they're becoming organised, just like every other species on CS. We have more horse lines than any other species, I believe, so they aren't cookie cutter at all.
