A Comprehensive Guide to CS Rarity Histories & Rarity "List"

- Thread's Purpose
- This thread has been created to provide members with as much information as possible on the rarities of older/rarer CS pets, special releases, and store pets. "Rarity lists" have been created based on these pet's rarity labels and the complete history/fluctuation of those labels - demand is not a factor, however personal preference obviously play a huge part in trading and this is not an official list. I've seen a few rarity threads floating around but none seem to be near completion and none simply using the rarity data found throughout the site over the years. The point of this thread is to help users develop their own value for pets with a better understanding of rarities and without the influence of demand. And as pets change in rarity this guide will continue to be updated.
- How It Works
- Any pet that has turned OMGSR at any point, or VR before 2012 (for now), will be listed here sorted by year and month of release. This alone can be used as a resource/archive for users wanting to learn more about the rarity of older/rarer pets. All of these pets are then listed in order of "how rare" they are; for example the Plains and Grevy's zebras have been OMGSR since rarity labels were introduced in October 2009, so they are at the top of the list. For pets with a fluctuating OMGSR rarity, they are placed based on their most recent rarity change whilst taking previous fluctuations into account (e.g. the Coontail went OMGSR in the January 2019 update, but it had a long history of OMGSR fluctuations so it is placed higher than other pets that also changed that month). If pets share the same fluctuations for at least two of their most recent changes, they are listed together as being "equal rarity".
- Things To Consider
- The "3 month rule" could arguably be applied to this list for any pets that changed rarity within 3 months of each other, and a lot of the "gaps" between pets are only a few months. This means the math of the old Rares List doesn't apply the same way here. But again, that is up to each user's personal preference.
As pets are re-released and accounts become inactive, rarities are bound to fluctuate. This means their place on the list may move. For example, after the 2010 re-release the Mountains Zebra was rarer than the UR Butterfly Wolf but downgraded to VR later on whilst the BW stayed OMGSR. It's important to not treat the list on this thread as completely concrete and accurate. The best rule for fair trading is simply to insure both partners are happy c;
Store pets cannot realistically be listed alongside other pets, as they are not re-released and therefore their rarity doesn't fluctuate the same way; it only increases slowly over time. So they will be sorted into a separate list on this thread, and how users choose to value them in comparison to general release pets is up to them.
