♥ Tea facts ♥
{ mainly British ones though because we're great and we like tea a lot }

Did you know...
1. Across the UK, when the popular (awful) drama Eastenders comes to an end five times a week, the National Grid has to deal with around 1.75 million kettles requiring power at the same time. That’s an additional 3 gigawatts of power for the roughly 3-5 minutes it takes each kettle to boil to make a cup of tea. So big is the surge that backup power stations have to go on standby across the country, and there’s even additional power made available in France just in case the UK grid can’t cope.
2. There is an estimated 1,500 different types of tea.
3. Britain is the second-largest nation of tea drinkers per capita. Ireland is the first. { we must beat them... }
4. Tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world, after water.
5. Over 3 million tons of tea is produced every year worldwide.
6. The United Kingdom drinks about 165 million cups of tea a day, or 62 billion cups per year.
7. Solid blocks of tea were used as money in Siberia until the 19th century.
8. The term “herbal tea” means that the tea has been infused with herbs or fruit that was not part of the tea plant. Herbal tea includes rosehip and chamomile teas.
9. It's a fact that Earl Grey is best tea.
