I personally value both of the 2024 UR Backgrounds (Twilight, and Moon) as being worth 4-4.5MA (40-45 'old' rares/900-950C$) each at the time of this post (8th March, 2025) despite the 2023 UR cakes (Dragon, Holo and Orange) being valued at 1.5-2MA each and this is why:
With every new UR item release (or pet tbh), there always follows a volatile market.
Everyone wants them - for completing collections, for the sake (status) of them being UR, because they genuinely love the item, for future trading, or any combination of those four reasons - but in the beginning noone knows how to price them so it's a bit of a 'sellers market' i.e. The price is often inflated and there is a panic just to own them no matter what the price might be.
A fair few months later, the price settles into what is expected of it to cost naturally. After that, assuming no more (or very little) enter the market the cost will steadily and slowly rise little by little, the older the release becomes.
When the UR cakes came out the year before, the very first ones were trading anything from a '2009 Rare' to a 'Non'.
They then settled at about an 'MA' worth each and recently increased to 1.5-2MA each (worth increases as age increases).
Does that mean tUR backgrounds are worth an 1-2MA each? Probably. But only if you use rarity as a guide, afterall they are UR and should be the same as the other UR items.
However, if you take into consideration demand, I would personally consider them as being worth more...but only as I like them more.
That is the issue - something is only worth as much as people are willing to pay for it. E.g. even though each UR cake is the same rarity, some people will pay more for the 'galaxy' one than the other two, simply because they prefer it.
I find that these are the threads that help me most when figuring out UR item worth (links take you to the post list that mention 'UR' within the thread):
Help wanted on item trades thread with 'UR' in searchbar
This one is really helpful for seeing what items are actually traded for rather than guessing. Generally the rule of thumb for me is to take trades from the last 3 months (most likely to be the current value) then work out the average of what it traded for
How would you value this item thread with UR in searchbar
Very useful if people actually answer, but only if they answer honestly with knowledge and experience. You're at the mercy of users who may not know what they are talking about however. The threads introduction rightly advises to get a few opinions but this isnt easy with items - even less when the item is rare - so the best way I've found is to make sure the person is a player who is knowledgable and/or respected in some way such as a member of staff (and not just a player who posts the most).
The 'good trade' thread with UR in search
Again, actual trades that have happened so can be useful to see what the user considered a 'good trade' although beware of trades that are 'unfair' in the posters favour i.e against their trading partner.
Item re-release trade advice thread with UR in search
Not as regularly used as the above threads but is specific to the item re-release day items which includes the UR items.
Also externally there is this spreadsheet:
Google spreadsheet on 'most popular items' and their worths
I'm in a love/hate relationship with this document. On the one hand I feel that with it being only the 'most popular' that the creator is also most sure about, then users can be led to wrongly assume all other items wont be worth anything than a common of the year it's from, for example. On the other hand, for the items that are on the sheets I have found it an invaluable source of information for which I am very grateful.
Finally, if I were wanting to trade a valuable item but I wasn't totally sure of its worth then I'd probably put it up for auction with a starting bid of whatever the lowest is I'd be willing to accept. That way I'd get what you wanted or more if it were to sell.
Whatever the method used, the most important is to never trade anything - pet, item or C$ - unless you are absolutely happy with the trade!
I hope this helps but I'm also interested to see other users opinions on this too!
