Oh, that's is sand from the desert area that ackkattikai are native to.
It does make it look like a lamp though.

Ackattikai were created when scientists were experimenting to create a cactus that would hold more water than others, so desert explorers could have one to use as a sort of canteen. One of the scientists thought,"Maybe if I put cat genes into this cactus seed the experiment will work!" And that is exactly what he did. When the seed finally grew to adulthood, the sceintist brought his kid to the facility so he could show her what he did. Since she was only three at the time, the cactus with eyes and a mouth baffled her. SHe shouted,"Ackkattikus!" and the name stuck.
