ANZAC Day
During World War 1, on the 25th of April 1916, the Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed in Gallipoli, and met fierce resistance from Turkey. The Australian and New Zealanders were known as ANZAC's, standing for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Their plan was to capture Turkey and attack Germany from behind.
For eight long months, no body from either side was winning or losing. The ANZAC's left, and even though their plan had failed, they were filled with pride. There were over 25,000 heavy casualties, including both diseases and wounds. Around 8, 500 Australians passed away.
The next year, the 25th of April was announced ANZAC Day. The soldiers marched the streets on this day. When the Vietnam war arrived, though, people began to dislike the ANZAC's marching the streets because of how horrible the Vietnam war was.
Eventually, though, people became interested in ANZAC Day again, and now younger children are also allowed to march.
ANZAC's showed great bravery, and became a legend. The ANZAC legend tells us to endure, be brave, and also tells us about mate-ship, like the mate-ship the ANZAC's displayed.

This is the story of ANZAC Day. On the drawing I did, the green stemmy thing in rosemary, the flag an Australian flag, and the flower is a poppy. I hope that you like the drawing and have learned more about ANZAC Day, a day where we now remember those whose lives have been lost. It is a time of deep respect.
