Several things!

Lock Transparency or Lock Alpha is a setting that makes it so you can color on the layer, but you won't go outside of the boundary. I use this to color my lines! It's like putting a fence around whatever already exists on that layer.

Making a new layer for color.This is basically just coloring or marking underneath the lines, so you don't change them at all. Layers are stacked one on top of another, so whatever is highest on the list will cover what's underneath it. I order my layers like this!



Turning up smoothness, in the brush settings. This setting makes your brush smoother, so it doesn't change size or get wobbly as often.
