Seriously, whenever I ask what the deal with the cake is in Portal I get "IT'S A LIE!!" as my response.

In Portal, the phrase "The cake is a lie" is scribbled in blood all over the walls in certain locations. At the end of the game during the end cutscene, a few other objects/machines that have accompanied you throughout the game are waiting for you with a cake.

during the game the robot thing keeps telling you there will be a party with cake at the end of all of your tasks, but you think it is a lie the entire game since you never get the cake.. the cake is real though

I've seen the ending part...but if that cake's been there with the cube thingy for a long time it's probably stale and stale cake isn't good cake.
