Little rats are based on shetland pony anatomy. There's a couple of reference photos below.
Colours?
At the moment, only natural colours occur commonly.
Patterns?
The range of available patterns are still in development! Most natural animal patterns are common. Some extant animal patterns are rare, and non-animal patterns are rare with controlled release.
What hair & body types are there?
At the moment, rats can have these hair types. More will likely be added and this topic will get a complete update when pond has stopped making new ones ;)
All lil' rats will be designed on the shetland pony base, but if you want to characterise your rat as a different body type in your personal art or rp, feel free to do this :)

Hairless Rats
Hairless little rats have, no hair! Their bodies are usually pink or grey toned.
Rare types
These types are less common and have controlled release amounts, which will remain a mystery 🥸 (because pond hasn't decided yet)
Horned rats (e.g unicorn)
Winged Rats (e.g bird wings, insect wings, etc)
Hairless Rats (naked, baby!)
Rare colours
Iridescent, brightly coloured, non-animal patterns (e.g lightning, hearts, skeleton), leopard spots, giraffe spots, and more on this theme can be considered uncommon or rare in little rats.
What can I request in my custom?
You can be cheeky! If you have a cool idea for a rare patterned rat, feel free to request it. The worst I will say is no. Try not to request winged or horned rats as these are more likely to be declined.
If you want to be safe, virtually all natural patterns and colours are allowed. All horse coats and patterns will be approved. Some fantasy-adjacent horse coats (like blue taffy) will also be approved.
