“I can feel in your soul though, that you belong in my realm dear, in fact.” At this her eyes crinkled in mirth. “I think you would be a lovely helper in my garden. Would you like to assist me in cultivating this beauty for most of your afterlife?”
Pura thought for a moment. She was still struggling to get her mind around the whole dead thing but looking at the amazing landscape, all the different new plants she could learn and care for. It sounded pretty good after life if she said so herself.
“Can I stop whenever I like?” Pura asked, Omi nodded.
“Of course dear, I would never keep one of my beings in servitude.”
“I'd be honored to accept then.” Pura said with a shaky smile, she bowed down to the god and promptly stumbled. Omi gave her a rather odd look but held out a hoof anyway as if to knight her.
“I'm sure you will make me proud Pura, I'm just going to give you my blessing then-” The moment Omi rest her hoof on her shoulder Pura felt a bolt of something dart through her. It felt like it filled up some hole in her she’d never noticed was empty and somehow felt like the essence of all the plants shed ever seen or smelt.
It felt like a fresh summer day distilled and warming her up from the inside out. It almost distracted her from Omi’s gasp. But the god backed away, taking most the feeling with her, though some remained warming her blood.
Omi was a cow. Pura could feel the knowledge in the back of her mind, somehow transferred. She recognised more plants now too, though not all. That strange creature there was a moa, and over there was a lemur, giant eyes staring at her.
Omi was staring at her too, and Pura felt a little embarrassed. Had she done something wrong?
“My dear!” Omi exclaimed with a shaky voice. “You aren't dead. No- “She murmured “Not dead at all.”
Pura felt relief, she’d get to see everyone again. But how did Omi, the god of life not realise.
“You must be a gateway,” Omi continued. “Its very rare but some mortals are born able to get into the realms without dying. “Ill send you back, don't want anyone to get too worried.
“Will I be able to come back?” Omi shrugged as best she could with cow shoulders. She closed her eyes and Pura felt the world swirl around her. The multitude of green blending into one and making her feel positively sick.
She was worried the feeling would never end when it did. She opened her eyes, the green colour fading from behind her eyelids and saw darkness. Oh Sha’s beak she was blind.
She blinked again and her eyes adjusted. It was just early morning, she could already see the hunters slip away and could hear Dahlia complain that Lilac had rolled on top of her with dirty fur. She sighed, thanking the goddesses, especially Omi, that she was back safe. She heard nothing back, but she could feel it wasn't just a dream. The green warmth still buzzed in her veins and she remembered things shed never learnt.
