The calico narrowed her eyes against the blinding rain. Wind buffeted her wet fur, and raindrops glistened on her whiskers for moments before they were blown away. She saw a pine forest up ahead. Just a little bit farther, and we are safe, she thought to herself. She crossed her eyes, straining to see her youngest kit. A little bit farther, and a little bit longer. You are my survivor, my little one. Just a little bit longer and you'll be safe. She looked up through squinted eyes at the forest, huge and overwhelming. Water dripped from the thin pine needles. I'll be fine, she reassured herself. Just a little bit longer, and I'll be fine.
