Wʜᴀᴛ ɪs ᴀ sᴄʀᴇᴇᴄʜᴇʀ?
A screecher is a dragon-like creature the size of a horse. They have no eyes, but they use their tongue quite like a snake. Like pit vipers, screechers have a pit organ, which is the little point at the end of their muzzle. They have sharp hooves for their front feet, and wolf-like paws for their hind feet. They have a pointy knife-like spike on the end of their tail, which acts as a defense and offense mechanism. They have a short fluffy mane and forelock, seemingly for no reason. They have large bird-like wings that they use to fly high in the sky. They hunt in packs, swooping down on an unsuspecting ungulate. They are actually quite cruel, and will torture their prey before finally killing it. They only have a few ranks in their packs, but they are quite similar to wolf pack ranks. These ranks include: the leader {always a male}, the subordinates, the leader's mate {always a female}, and one or two scapegoats {lowest rank}; they will also have hatchlings, AKA the babies. Hatchlings are usually offspring of the leaders, but some subordinates will have young as well. Screechers are generally known as vicious killers; but once they are tamed, they are actually quite gentle and calm. Whenever a female screecher lays an egg, she will retreat into a dark space, not letting anyone near, even her mate or human companion. The baby will stay within the egg for a week, then hatch and stay with its mother. When it's full grown it will emerge into the light, ready to leave its nest and find a mate and/or pack.
