Corvin and I stared at the great jackal in front of us. His fur was as black as a new moon, and his eyes glowed like embers. He opened his mouth and began to speak.
"Heed my warning, princess," he said. "Avoid the racer, Hassan, if you want to make it to the end. I do not want to see you end up like your mother." I blinked.
"You know my mom?" I asked, my heart rate slowly increasing. Anubis nodded.
"Yes, princess." He looked over his shoulder as if someone was calling him. "I must go." He began to fade into the background.
"Wait!" I cried, but he was already gone. I sank to my knees. Corvin walked up behind me and rested his head against my shoulder, sayig nothing.
