UPDATE: If you are only interested in the cat coats, they're effectively complete! Unfortunately theres a few references I simply cannot verify at this time due to sparse research combined with lack of publicly listed genes within the breeders required, but I will update those guides as soon as I have anything new.

The only remaining coat guide left otherwise is albinism within dogs, which I have to do a bit more research on but is somewhat compile-able otherwise. If anyone has any other coat guides they'd like to see, weather it be combos, how to draws, etc. please do suggest! If anyone is interested in how sex linked red passage works, I'd be happy to do a guide specifically on that inheritance since it primarily relies on the mother (something commonly forgotten).

If anyone wants to know how colors may pass based on genes, I'd be happy to make a thread using my own family tree builder if enough people would be interested!

Otherwise all thats left are non coat traits, like fur texture, facial proportions, body types, polydactyly, etc.!

I have a question!
A friend's barn cat is a long hair grey (solid) with piebald and green eyes. Almost every litter she has had has included a tortoiseshell calico. Other colors are usually black, black smoke, grey, and I think she's had one dark tabby. With or without piebald.
I have 2 of her kittens (mine are fixed, thank god) and they are a matching black and piebald brother/sister pair with green eyes.
So how is mama barn cat having tortoiseshell kits when she isn't calico? her current litter is a tortoiseshell and the other is a long hair black with a lighter shaded collar.
Cat color genetics are so complex!

Okay had to have a think! Basically, either she IS a calico, but it's hard to see due to her mid-high white (something that's possible, assuming by piebald you mean mid-high white as piebald is a dog term) which would be likely if the father is also black based, or she keeps having kids with orange fathers. The former is more likely as it does happen, especially when silver is on top of it, but if there's a lot of oranges in the area maybe that's wrong. You can see more about red inheritance here!

It's possible she's the one putting out smokes, as sometimes black smokes when long-haired are a grey tint, but without photos I can't say myself. Silver is dominant to nonsilver, basically meaning the carrier is more likely to put out silver than not. But if it was a one time occurrence, it's certainly the father doing it. You can see visual representations of black smokes and red smokes here, as well as an inclusion of black smoke torties here! Reminder that blue CAN show smoke as well, it's not limited to any color, as well as be more intense showing and cover more on the body and face!

The tabby one is easy, if she's solid, then the father must be been Tabby with recessive solid for only one or a few kittens to be Tabby.

Keep in mind, cats aren't monogamous. If in a feral population, it's unlikely she's going back to the same father, and the "multiple fathers to one litter" is for the most part a myth. It's just as rare in humans as it is in other animals.
Without photos it's harder to determine but I hope I answered your questions!

Can I suggest a genetics guide on domestic rabbits?

Im certainly curious on rabbits but it'll take a good while until I start making them! My priority is finishing the cat and dog sets first.
