Re: Lambicorns Halloween // Story (Pt. 2)

Worth a look around...

Nocturne stretched out as best as she could, simply watching as the crowds dispersed. True, it was that time of year she could actually stand to be awake some, but... well, some lambies needed five more minutes to be ready in the mornings, some needed about five more weeks. She closed her eyes, not quite asleep, but certainly not fully awake any more. Just /resting/, she told herself, and besides- it would be so much easier for her to check things out this way.

Her projection wasn't the most visible, but could easily be seen by anyone fairly observant, and this way she didn't have to worry about knocking into anyone too much, or crashing into more trees! And who knew what was out there tonight? Elder or not, Nocturne enjoyed the mystery, the simple joy of maybe there's something out there she doesn't know anything about yet!

She wandered for a short time, ranging out into the circle of trees just beyond the campsite. She heard the occasional shout, followed by some berating rants afterwards; apparently the imp lord wasn't the only one up to some tricks tonight. But something caught her eyes then- a strange shimmer, hard to see except for the way the moonlight fell on it and the way it was angled just above her paw. A patch of... fur? But it was unlike that of any lambie she'd seen so far this evening, and it seemed to shift colors as your position changed, remaining nearly invisible...

Nocturne blinked, her projection fading as her physical body awoke once again. "Sybil?" she called, looking towards her sister. "Has there been anyone nearby who... mmm... anyone you would say has similarities to a chameleon? There's some strange fur caught in the trees right outside the camp here..."

Worth a look around...

”Alright, here’s the plan.“ Helena whispered into the ear of her lover. “We are going into the woods, as deep as we can get, and I’m going to snatch up the first suspicious creature I see. Then, you and I are going to our tent and training it to steal things, so we can have it rob every other Lambie of their candy.”

“Have you lost your mind?” Peri glared are Helena. “No, we are not risking our lives just so you can steal candy. I came here to have fun, not to get myself killed. Remember we have a kingdom to look after once we return home.”

Helena laughed, amazed that Peri thought she was being serious. “Are you really that naive? You’re hysterical, Peri. I’m obviously kidding.”

Peri rolled her eyes. “Ha ha, very funny. Now what’s your real plan?”

“We are going into the woods to look for suspicious things, duh. There’s no plan.”

Peri looked very concerned at that, but reluctantly, she followed Helena into the woods. The two queens found nothing unusual, and after about a half an hour, they both began to grow tired. Peri insisted that they go back to their tent and get some rest, but Helena was determined to find something. After another hour, Helena had finally gave in, and the two began to walk back the way they came.

“So, which way did we come from? I’m pretty sure I remember us coming in from the left.”

“Pfft, don’t be silly. Come on, I know exactly where we came from.”

“Do you now? Last I checked, you’re the most directionally challenged Lambie I know.”

Helena rolled her eyes and dragged Peri to the right side of the woods. They walked for about twenty minutes before Peri stopped dead in her tracks, growing pale. Helena turned back to look at her, confused. ”What’s wrong? Are you... Peri, are you alright?”

She didn’t respond. Helena approached her carefully and followed her gaze, which was fixated on an ordinary rabbit. She stared at it for the longest time, unable to look away. She tried desperately, thinking about other things to distract her, but the rabbit seemed to be the only thing she could possibly focus on.

Over three hours later, both queens were unconscious, and the rabbit was gone. They were not injured, and it appeared as if they’d just fallen asleep. Peri was the first to wake, gently nudging Helena when she made it to her feet. The Lambicorn refused to move, still fast asleep. With a heavy sigh, she lifted her lover onto her back and carried her the rest of the way back to the camp.

Helena woke an hour after their return. “W...what... What happened? I remember walking, and then... now I’m here.” She trembled, clearly shaken up by the whole thing.

Peri held onto her tightly. “Shhh... don’t worry about it. We’re alright, we’re back at camp now. We’re safe... safe for today, at least.”

+10 candicorns to all below!

@BlueberryOtter
Upon investigating the sign post, you notice there is in fact, something scratched into it: "NOT WHAT SHE SEEMS"
Peculiar... but doesn't give you any clue as to who "she" is.

@rem sleep
As if on cue, there's a definite sound of laughter in the distance. Were those a pair of eyes?? It's hard to say. Some twigs snap, and then nothing. There was definitely something there.

@DaniCalifornia
The shadowy creature is perfectly still. It looks a lot like a lambicorn, sure, but as soon as you peer at it closer, it flashes a huge grin, and vanishes into the trees. Yes.. into the trees... as in, it climbed the tree? You're pretty sure you've not seen a lambicorn do that before. Not gracefully at least!!

@bakuraas.
There's a scuffle as the shadowy creature yelps in fright... beelining for the nearest tree-trunk. It's gone, but there's a soft thump of something it dropped. Oh... it's a horned headband? Not quite a normal costume piece though. It seems to give off some swirly shadowy effect when it moves. Might want to hang onto that.

@Alpha Snowdust
At the base of a tree is a big spyglass. Ooh! As you go near it, there's a very loud hissing from the branches above, and then a scramble as some.... thing leaps away. Guess you can take the spyglass?

@WitchHazel
Something was definitely moving out there. And it didn't seem like another lambicorn...

@Rylf
That was spooky!! It's a good thing no one noticed the nearly-invisible creature that had followed them... as soon as they reached camp, it had vanished into the trees.

@Queen Vivane
Such a smooth and quick transformation is very odd... even for elders. Might be worth keeping in mind when you're back at camp... and stay on the lookout.

@Griff
From the bushes a ways away, there's a soft (and likely unheard) growl, as something watches Violette exploring alone. As soon as she's startled by her friend, it seems to relax a bit and the growling stops. The mystery creature turns and silently vanishes.

@Makoto Kino
Sybil tilts her head, puzzled by the question, "Not that I've heard of... hm. Strange fur..." She's looking around for something, but Nocturne's discovery causes her to pause. "I'll have to see if anyone's heard anything about that at our next Fireside."

@Hamstermoon
The woods SEEM normal enough! Except... you could've sworn those were a pair of glowing eyes in the bushes. Just for a moment... ah drats. Could've been anything! A tree branch shifts overhead, and leaves fall as something moves away in the treetops.

@malitiae
From the edge of camp, a shadowy creature watches. Once the queens are out of sight, it disappears into the brush, a series of shifting cackles following it.

@lilpupin
YIKES! Who needs a spooky encounter when your overlord boss IS the spooky encounter??

(( lovely artwork to all who did art by the way!!! <333 )
