every year, the value gaps between true date and re release pets grow exponentially, but it has accelerated in recent years as inflation continues to distort value. the amount of players that do not accept re-released pet trades without a significant (>/= 40% in my experience) add, or any at all, has me wondering what the point of december 18th even is.
TRUE DATES MUST BE VALUED HIGHER to maintain the integrity of true date collections, i agree, but we are approaching the same frustrating result that devaluing entire species landed us with, that will continue to make the game even more impossible/nonsensical. value is entirely decided on whatever trend the current active players decide to hop on en masse; if one notorious trader will only offer 1/2 market price for a specific pet, it is almost certain that we will see offers for this pet steadily decline in value - inversely, if one notorious trader is selling a specific (usually a recent event pet) for a heinous price, competitor c$ shops will follow suit by jacking up their standards. sometime within the past few years, we’ve soiled 12/18 adopts by denying them a large chunk of their value.
some players don’t care, this is true! but enough do to render values disproportionate. i value TD much, much higher than RR - but this is because most everyone else does, too, and i would objectively be losing account value if i neglected to subscribe to the same valuation… such is the philosophy/domino effect that has sent recent rares up to 1 ma.
one of the reasons they are not as highly appraised is as simple as: They Do Not Sit In The Right Spot in My Group. and i get it. aesthetically and logistically, it is annoying. the current-year date, combined with the immediate degradation of its value in comparison to its true date brethren, makes me think, “although ive gotten a pet ive been really wanting, it’s still 12/18 and sitting at the front of my groups - i still really feel only halfway to *actually* getting the pet because the one i got is not true date.”
what i propose is that pets adopted on any year as part of the december 18th advent are dated and sorted as their original release year, the specific date being the first of the month of the release or the holiday they were released. re-released pets would be distinguishable by an italicized date and an asterisk. when clicked on, underneath the pet (where store pets are indicated to be stores) would say something like “This pet was re-released by ____ on 12-18-2026” with a clickable link that leads you to rerelease information. true date purists would still be able to shoot for an asterisk-free collection, which would still maintain its status of superiority. re-release pets wouldn’t feel as much like a knock-off/a shell of the actual pet.
DO I THINK this would *significantly* lessen the value gap between true dates and re-releases? no, and i think that’s a good thing!! anything that solidifies/reinforces the value in true dated, older non-stores is more important now than ever, in my opinion - the economy is so C$ driven and store-sale manic that demand is completely steam rolling genuine older valuables. HOWEVER, i think it would staunch the continuous downward spiral of re-release values. re-releases ARE, objectively and as a whole, being valued significantly lower than they have been in recent years, undermining december 18th’s efforts to make this game more playable. right now, it is nearly impossible to accrue value as a new player unless you 1) have accrued value in a cross-trade compatible site already or 2) spend 2 years relying on the generosity of older players and adoption centers or 3) have prodigious artistic skills.
and, FINALLY, i STRONGLY believe that a lot of the ninja’ing activities around the holidays would lessen, as players would have an immediate indication of value, an infinitely easier time locating the pet in the archives, and be much, much less susceptible to lowballs. though, this might be a negative to some of yall LOL

i do agree it'd be awesome if their original month/year of release was easily visible on their pet page though! or if pets could be sorted by the order they are in in the archive.... that'd tank the td overvaluing overnight lol
probably a reeeeeally silly question but what would happen if you took the ID number of the last of a random ‘09 pet to be adopted normally, lets just say it’s 18383838, and then pasted it onto a re-release but added a decimal so it was 18383838.1? would the pet theoretically sit after that pet but before all of the seceding normal releases? what if december 18th pets went into the decimals after each of their respective, normally adopted pet’s last distributed code HAHAH sorry it’s 4am so im thinking so far beyond the realm of possibility
like i know the boxes just pop out a randomly generated, completely ‘new’ to the system pet with a whole new ID but what if instead of creating a whole ‘new’ pet they create a complete duplicate/replica of an ID that is already in the system and added another numerical variable to it as a decimal? so on december 18th, pets just keep duplicating and duplicating instead of summoning ‘new’ ones but each time there is a new duplicate generated on the 18th the decimal changes to keep the IDs unique

Decimals are not possible. URLS generally do not accept decimals and it would be more complicated than it's worth. Even if the URLS could be amended, there is no guarantee that the decimal character would have the pets sort correctly. It's better off we have a manual sort option for pets to sort by "archive". Unfortunately each image in the database would have to be coded a value to get them to sort properly. They may already have those values, I'm not sure, but sorting would have to acknowledge those values to get it to work. Unless there's a drag and drop system implemented like there is on dragon cave. I am not a coder, I only know some basic web design, so I don't know which one would be more complicated to make.
okay new idea what if each pet is first sorted into the system by adoption date, and then those are ordered by ID?
