"Avian wasn't using these old rare items anymore so we are giving them a new home! You might recognize these items from the earlier years of CS - re-gifted to you now." [...] Think of it as December 18th but for items!
So, as we all know, december 18th releases older and rarer pets. It would be pointless to get a 2023 common from the box right? There are so many around, why do we need more? The whole purpose is to make older pets obtainable since a lot of them might no longer be in circulation. The item re-release seems to try to follow this concept and fail.
My suggestion is: Since items don't have rarities, there should be an age cap to determine which items can be released in the box. Sure not all items should be from 2008-2009, but there's also no reason to be getting a halloween token from last year.
For example, all items are guaranteed to have been released in 2015/2016/2017 or before. Maybe even 2020 or before. So it could be an older item, and a few younger items, but still maintining the "rare" aspect of it, and not adding more items into the game that were just here and, if there were rarities, would probably not be rare. Each year the cap year would increase by one.
To sum it up, I think it would be better to not release super recent items. I don't mean only old items should be released, but a balance is needed. Or else the event concept should be rethought, and the description should be changed because it doesn't quite reflect how the event works.
