What is a COPPA player?
This one is going to be a bit of a strange suggestion, just bear with me... if this has already been suggested, let me know, but I was unable to find anything in this board about this
First of all, when I say the "registered COPPA users" group, I mean this:
Along with that, I do also want to include this part of the COPPA messages in what I'm suggesting to be removed (if it is not still this way, please let me know, I have not traded a COPPA user in a very long time and therefore don't know what their messages look like now/if it has changed):
Now, as I said in the title, my suggestion here is to remove it from the view of normal players/non-staff. There are a few reasons for this, so let me list them here:
- Known COPPA users are more likely to get targeted for scams. From what I've seen, COPPA users and newer users are mostly the ones that get targeted for scams, particularly December 18th, because they are simply too young or too new to understand the values of these pets. While this suggestion obviously won't stop scams, I believe it would help at least a bit to not have the site itself be waving around the fact that someone is a COPPA player in their trade messages and on their profile (and yes, very obvious scam trades can be reversed, but CS very often won't do it because "players might value things differently", "you learned about the value after you accepted", "there is no proof of this being a scam", etc.).
- Stating someone is COPPA is somewhat like stating their age range. COPPA, if I remember correctly, is automatically placed on people under 13 in the US as a way to protect them. So, while saying that you're under 13 is not okay, saying that you're COPPA and having a tag on you that says you're COPPA, is- which, in my opinion, is a bit contradicting. And even if 13 isn't the exact number someone stops being COPPA, they are still young enough to be COPPA.
- COPPA players are young players that don't need the site itself telling everyone they are young. Somewhat similar to my last point- even if we don't want to compare it to an age range or you want to make the argument that some COPPA players get their COPPA off a year early/late, you can't deny that COPPA players are still minors, and the site is still allowing that to be said even though they ALSO don't allow you to say that you are a minor.
Pretty much, I just think that showing someone as a COPPA player removes the whole purpose of COPPA itself and all the regulations they have with it (delayed post times, limited trade messages, etc.)
