suggestion: squids as a normal adopt

every month, we get a set of new pets to adopt, all sorted under specie tabs. included in these tabs is an “other” section, where i (and hopefully others) would like to see squids included.

so far, squids have only been event adopts, but even then, they are not guaranteed to be included in every event. they could easily fit under the “other species” tab, and they would be a nice refresher of a sea critter adopt. typically we only see those (mostly lineart edits) during sea/ocean based events. i think it would offer a great variety to have squids included here and there in the monthly adopts. i’ve seen a number of users express interest in seeing more sea creatures implemented as adopts. we do have an official line that is still used, the squid, and so it wouldn’t require the creation of a new lineart.

to those who may be thinking “event linearts should stay event only,” i would implore you to consider the macaw for a moment. this species is primarily event, but has been used as a monthly adopt a couple of times, receiving generally favorable reactions. squids could easily function in the same manner.

to those who might think the “other species” section has too many options, there is another potential route to take. baby squids are laid inside an egg case, later to hatch their beautiful selves. if you go to adoptions, there is a “hatchery” tab. there are already two stages set up for the squid, so reasonably those two can be used as growth stages, which monthlies generally have. if they were to require three stages, the squid can achieve that, as they originate from eggs. there would have to be an egg lineart created, but it would be to an already existing species. if cs artists would not want to do this, they still could function as a two-stage growth, either in “other species” or “hatchery,” being that they Do come from eggs.

i would love to hear some input on this! it may be that not everyone is a squid fan, but nor is everyone a fan of the macaws, or even the dogs. adding this variety in could really help appeal to those who do love squids, and i have met quite a few people in my time here that adore the species. when they were first released as a lineart for april fools, this fanclub was introduced to beg their return! admins tess and simon both actively love squids. they have enough popularity to return as an event species, and i believe enough popularity to start being introduced as a monthly adopt.

MODS: if there is a place better suited for this, please redirect me! i checked the rules of pet design suggestions and did not see anything against making a post like this. i wouldn’t consider this necessarily about pet design so much as having squids implemented into the monthly adopt system.

I love them and there are so many potential design possibilities jdjsnfkskfkd we can have natural squid that look like actual squid species, we could have neon squid, we could have weird fluffy squid, we can have spider squid, there are too many options to keep squiddos in the dark
